Two of the most popular car brands on the road have issued a new vehicle recall over fears that brake pedals could become detached while driving.
Citroen and Vauxhall have been forced to recall three vehicles in response to concerns around the assembly of the pedal box and its specification.
Parent company Stellantis stated that a serious "stop-drive" recall had been launched for customers who have taken delivery of right-hand drive C3 and C3 Aircross models.
The recall also impacts the new Vauxhall Frontera, even though deliveries of the vehicle have not yet commenced.

Stellantis said the impacted Frontera models would be inspected before deliveries begin, which is expected to be in the autumn.
There are fears that the C3 and C3 Aircross may not have a brake pedal box fitted to the correct specification for UK vehicles, potentially leading to a loss of braking.
A Stellantis spokesperson highlighted that the safety of its customers is the company's highest priority.
In the event that a car included in the recall does lose brake capability, the automatic emergency braking (AEB) and the electronic parking brake would remain fully operational.

The spokesperson continued, saying: "We are initiating a stop-drive action to protect all customers of the Citroen C3 and C3 Aircross affected.
"Customers will be provided a replacement vehicle whilst their car is checked and, if necessary, rectified.
"Stellantis remains fully committed to acting swiftly, transparently, and responsibly in addressing this issue, if any customer has any concerns they should contact customer services or their local retailer.
"Vauxhall aren't impacted as deliveries haven't started, vehicles are being checked and, if necessary, rectified."

All of the impacted models are included in Stellantis's Smart Car platform, which includes the Fiat Grande Panda and Grande Panda Electric, although Autocar reports that these vehicles are not impacted.
This also represents the third Stellantis "stop-drive" recall of the year after a major crackdown on vehicles fitted with Takata airbags following the death of a woman in France when the airbag in her 2014 Citroen C3 exploded.
Stellantis acknowledged that there have not been any instances of issues with Takata airbags in the UK, with the recent national recall being introduced after a recall across Europe.
It is estimated that around 120,000 vehicles across the UK have been forced off roads in response to the "stop-drive" notification.
