Motorists are facing long traffic delays on the road this morning following serious collisions in Lincolnshire and Surrey, dramatically extending travel times.
National Highways is warning of "severe delays" on the M3 eastbound in Surrey following a collision, prompting more than seven miles of congestion on the approach.
The accident, which is being assessed by all emergency services, including Surrey Police, has forced the closure of two of four lanes between J3 (Bagshot) and J2 (M25).
National Highways Traffic Officers are also attending the scene to provide assistance with managing the growing tailback, while recovery has been arranged.

Traffic maps suggest that these incidents could add a significant amount of time to journeys along the route.
National Highways has also issued a warning for traffic on the A1 northbound between B6403 (Little Ponton) and B1174 (Grantham), prompting the northbound carriageway to be shut.
The closure, which was prompted by a multi-vehicle collision, has required the assistance of all emergency services.

The national transport authority has set out a diversion route for motorists impacted by the northbound carriageway closure on the A1.

Road users travelling northbound are advised to follow the Solid Circle diversion symbol on road signs
- Exit the A1 at A606 Stamford Northbound exit slip road
- At the top of the slip road, turn left (west) onto the A606
- Continue westbound along the A606 through the villages of Empingham and Whitwell until the A606/A6003/B640 Oakham Bypass roundabout
- At the roundabout, turn right (north west) onto the A606 Burley Park Way on Oakham Bypass and straight over the A606/B668 roundabout, the Ashwell roundabout and the Railway Bridge roundabout, then continue along north to the Barleythorpe roundabout
- At the Barleythorpe roundabout, turn right (north west) and continue along the A606 through Langham and Burton Lazars to Melton Mowbray
- In Melton Mowbray, head north along Burton Street, then left onto Leicester junction
- At the junction, turn right onto Norman Way and continue to the A607/B676 Thorpe Lane junction
- Turn left onto A607 Thorpe Lane, head out of Melton Mowbray
- Continue along the A607 through the villages of Thorpe Arnold, Waltham on the Wolds, Croxton Kerrial and Harlaxton to the A1/A607 northbound slip road roundabout (Farmers Arms)
- Turn right at the roundabout onto the A1 northbound entry slip and re-join the A1
