Motorists have reported issues with the parking app and its phone line

Drivers are facing chaos this morning as the UK's most popular parking app has stopped working during rush hour.

The RingGo app, which is used by 21 million users, has gone down this morning, causing havoc for drivers up and down the country.

The app allows drivers to pay for parking on their phones, rather than using machines at car parks, with RingGo used in more than 500 towns and cities across the UK.

According to Downdetector, more than 1,300 reports have been made to say that the parking app is not working, with a huge spike at around 8am.

Motorists with the application are seeing error messages, including: "We encountered a problem dealing with your request, please try again."

Another states: "Looks like something went wrong processing your request.

"Try restarting the app. If the issues continues, delete and reinstall the app before trying again."

George Chamberlain, External Communications Manager UKI at RingGo, told GB News: “We are currently experiencing a disturbance to our internal systems which is affecting the RingGo service.

"Restoring normal service is our highest priority and we are investigating the situation. We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause our customers.

"We have informed parking operators of the issue and asked them to suspend parking enforcement until the issue is resolved. Where available, Pay and Display machines remain operational.

"We will continue to share updates with our users, for more information please visit the RingGo.co.uk website."

Motorists have taken to social media to complain about the outage, with one driver using the live chat feature to question why she was unable to pay for 20 minutes.

It stated that RingGo was experiencing "intermittent issues", but confirmed it was "working as quickly as possible to resolve this".

Others have claimed that the phone number associated with customer support is also down, creating further issues.

If the problem persists, thousands of drivers could be at risk of being fined, despite being unable to pay for their parking.

Posting on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, a disgruntled driver questioned why the app wasn't working properly.

They wrote: "App isn't working, website isn't working - I've been deleting apps and resetting passwords for the last 30 min, still nothing.

"Customer chat also unavailable - I'm assuming fines issued in this time won't be valid?"

Another user reported that the app was very slow compared to normal, with the app saying functions are "unavailable" when going to book a session.
