Nissan 'remains firmly committed to an electric future' with new Juke in major boost to UK manufacturing

The Juke was originally launched in 2010 and has been purchased more than 1.5 million times across Europe over the last 16 years.

Drivers will be able to get their hands on the new Nissan Juke from spring 2027, with production at the Sunderland plant set to begin in the coming weeks.

Nissan confirmed that the Sunderland factory remains the "cornerstone" of Nissan's electrified production footprint in Europe.

Clíodhna Lyons, Region Vice President, Product, Brand and Marketing Strategy, Nissan AMIEO, said: "Juke has always stood for bold design and a willingness to challenge convention. With this third generation, we are bringing that spirit into the electric age.

"As our first fully electric Juke, it will help us reach new customers while expanding choice across our electrified range."

The Juke will be built on the brand's CMF-EV platform, which is a modular architecture developed by Nissan and Renault.

The platform, which is affectionately known as a "magic flying carpet", allows for extensive creative opportunities.

Nissan is adding the new Juke to an ever-growing lineup of electric vehicles, including the Micra, Leaf, Ariya crossover and Townstar LCV.

There are plans for Nissan to add a new A-segment electric vehicle in the near future to go head-to-head with the likes of the Fiat 500e, Dacia Spring and Hyundai Inster.

The Japanese brand is continuing to roll out its e-POWER hybrid technology, as seen in the Qashqai and Juke HEV.

Nissan said these hybrid vehicles would "remain an important part of the line-up", allowing drivers to have a wide range of vehicles to choose from.

Massimiliano Messina, Chairman of Nissan AMIEO, said the next generation of vehicles would "accelerate our transition to zero-emission mobility".

He continued, saying: "Europe is central to Nissan's electrification strategy, and we remain firmly committed to a fully electric future.

"With a rapidly expanding EV line-up, we are bringing greater choice and innovation to every segment, powered by our strong design, engineering and manufacturing footprint in the region."

The Sunderland factory has been manufacturing the next-generation Nissan Leaf since December last year, having invested £450million in the facility.

Nissan is producing the Leaf based on the EV36Zero vision, which combines EV manufacturing, battery production and renewable energy.

At the beginning of the Leaf's production, Mr Messina described it as a "momentous occasion", adding that it was the "electric vehicle that started it all".

"Smart, sleek and aerodynamic, the all-new Leaf captures the energy of a new generation as a car that redefines what's possible and sets the stage for Nissan’s next chapter," he said.
