Drivers are able to arrange test drives and check local availability through Amazon

Skoda has made automotive history by becoming the first European car brand to launch an Amazon showroom that integrates real-time stock availability.

The innovative digital platform allows UK customers to browse the full Skoda range, check local availability, request test drives and explore finance options before visiting a dealership to complete their purchase.

The new service between Amazon and Skoda creates a seamless "click to drive" experience, combining online convenience with the reassurance of in-person dealership support.

Customers can view everything from the compact Fabia supermini to the award-winning Kodiaq SUV, as well as Skoda's fully electric models, including the new Elroq and Enyaq.

The new Amazon showroom addresses a growing trend identified in Skoda's recent survey of 2,000 UK adults, which found that 47 per cent of potential customers value being able to research from home when buying a new car.

A further 77 per cent of respondents said they spend up to two hours daily browsing online, proving the appeal of digital convenience.

Through the platform, customers can browse and check real-time local stock availability for vehicles ready within two to four weeks.

The entire process can take place on Amazon.co.uk or via the Amazon app on smartphones or tablets.

Matthew Bowden, Director of Skoda UK, emphasised the importance of meeting customers where they already spend their time online.

He said: "Online browsing and research are part of everyday life, which is why we're so excited to launch the Skoda showroom at Amazon.

"It gives prospective customers more opportunities to find their next car and see where it's available, all from the comfort of their home."

Despite the shift toward digital research, Skoda's survey highlights the ongoing importance of physical interaction when purchasing a car.

More than eight in 10 respondents prefer some form of in-person engagement, while a significant 78 per cent consider a test drive essential before making a decision.

Expert knowledge (47 per cent), product demonstrations (36 per cent), and face-to-face interaction were also cited as key factors influencing purchasing decisions.

While customers can browse cars on Amazon, the purchase process takes place entirely at a Skoda car dealership.

Once customers have compared features and found their perfect Skoda model through the Amazon platform, they are connected to their preferred retailer.

The final stages of the purchase journey take place at the dealership, where customers can arrange finance, agree any part-exchanges and set a collection date.

This approach satisfies 59 per cent of survey respondents who cited ease and simplicity as their main reason for shopping online, whilst still providing the face-to-face interaction that many car buyers value.
