Major car brand debuts revolutionary AI-powered driver assistance technology with Google Maps

The innovative technology is powered by Google's advanced AI features and will help drivers deal with complex roads and rush-hour traffic.

The lane assistance features will be available in the new Polestar 4 electric car on its 10.2-inch driver display.

Motorists looking at the driver display screen will see the suggested lane that they should be in, as well as the speed limit and further directions when travelling to a specific destination.

Google's impressive AI technology can analyse road elements, including lane markings and road signs, and make use of the forward-facing cameras on the vehicle.

The system will also alert motorists with visual and audio reminders that help drivers change lanes with enough time to remain safe.

With the new technology, drivers can see all possible lanes they could take when travelling, including the lane they are in.

Sid Odedra, Head of UI/UX at Polestar, said: "Over the past five years, Polestar’s collaboration with Google has delivered many new features for Polestar owners."

He highlighted how the new live lane guidance technology is key to Polestar's "driver-centric" user experience strategy.

Mr Odera noted that the new features in the Polestar 4 will reduce driver stress and improve safety by removing the likelihood of missing an exit or last-minute lane changes.

Polestar has consistently backed new safety measures for motorists and included new technological features through over-the-air software updates.

While the lane assistance technology will only be available in the United States and Sweden in the coming months, the Swedish brand confirmed that it would reach more markets and road types soon.

Andrew Foster, Director of Product Management for Google Maps, added: "Polestar has been a close partner since 2020 when Polestar 2 launched as the first car with Google built-in.

"Now, Polestar 4 will be the first to integrate our groundbreaking live lane guidance which will help people drive with even more confidence and set a new benchmark for navigation across the auto industry."

The Polestar 4 is the brand's flagship model, with an impressive range of up to 385 miles, and a 0-60mph time of just 3.7 seconds, all for a list price of £60,000.

Drivers may also be surprised to see the back windshield replaced with a camera, marking a dramatic shift from almost all other vehicles on the market.

The reverse camera provides continuous rearward vision and allows the driver to have a wider field of view and better visibility at night.

Drivers can choose between a live feed from behind the vehicle or a view of the passengers in the back using a tab on the underside of the rearview mirror.

In its latest filing, Polestar reported impressive growth in retail sales, rising from 12,548 in Q3 last year, with a 13 per cent jump to 14,192 this year.
