The M20 is seriously delayed between J11 (near Hythe) and J11A (for Eurotunnel)

Drivers have been warned of roughly 90 minutes of delays this morning across a major region as thousands hit the road for the Easter break.

The M20 eastbound in Kent between J11 (near Hythe) and J11A (for Eurotunnel) is currently operating with serious congestion and delays.

National Highways said no incidents have been reported, but congestion is building due to increased Easter getaway traffic heading towards the South East coast.

National Highways area team crews have closed the J11 eastbound entry slip road to assist with traffic management and help ease congestion.

Kent Police and National Highways Traffic Officers units are also in the area to help assist with traffic management.

Posting on X, the agency shared: "Delays are now 90 minutes above expected journey times on the M20 eastbound approaching Eurotunnel.

"The J11 eastbound entry slip near #Hythe remains closed to assist with traffic management and easing congestion."

According to reports, this Easter break is set to be the busiest one in roughly four years, with nearly 21 million getaway trips planned.

RAC mobile servicing and repairs team leader Sean Kimberlin said: "The Easter bank holiday getaway is traditionally one of the biggest of the year, and 2026 looks no different.

"Despite fuel prices rising dramatically due to the conflict in the Middle East, our research suggests Easter remains incredibly important to people as it's often the first chance to get away since Christmas or to meet up with friends and family.

"While a significant number of drivers are concerned about rising fuel prices, a much smaller contingent is actually changing their plans this Easter as a result."

The RAC explained that junction 11 exits to the A20 onto the A261 into Hythe and to the B2068, which leads to Canterbury and is one of the last junctions before the Channel Tunnel, which exits onto a major rest stop for truckers making the crossing.

"This means slow-moving, heavy loading vehicles frequently use this roundabout, causing traffic to build up," it added.
