Electric car giant Polestar has announced major progress towards its carbon-neutral goals ahead of a huge product offensive over the coming years.
New data from Polestar shows that it has reduced the greenhouse gas emissions per car sold by a staggering 31 per cent compared to 2020 levels.
The Swedish manufacturer's 2025 Sustainability Report outlines significant progress towards its climate goals, including reaching net zero emissions by 2040.
Polestar has set itself apart from other manufacturers in recent years as it remains firmly committed to its electric vehicle mission, with lofty plans to launch its largest model offensive over the next three years.
Through innovative manufacturing techniques, the premium EV brand has ensured that its batteries in the Polestar 2 and Polestar 3 have more than 50 per cent recycled cobalt.
It has also lowered the cradle-to-grave greenhouse gas emissions of its Polestar 4 to 27.6 tonnes, with the Polestar 2 producing slightly more at 28.3 tonnes.
Speaking to GB News, Polestar's head of sustainability, Fredrika Klarén, emphasised the importance of the brand being transparent with customers, including the source of the materials inside the car.
She noted how sustainability was "key" for the manufacturer and that Polestar was built to be at the forefront of carbon neutrality.

To achieve its climate goals, Polestar has increased the use of renewable energy for battery production and manufacturing, in addition to the use of low-carbon materials.
The Polestar 4, which has the lowest carbon footprint of the brand's lineup, has benefitted from the uptick in renewable energy across Europe.
Much of the progress made in eliminating emissions from the supply chain has been thanks to the Mission 0 House, which has been backed by 100 million Swedish Krona (£8million).
The project unites industry and academia to bring sustainable solutions to high-impact materials, including steel and textiles.

As part of the development of new innovations, Polestar's 0 project, which aimed to create the world's first climate-neutral car by 2030, has been delayed until 2035.
It cited the complexity of the challenge associated with creating such a vehicle, but noted the additional opportunities now available with an extra five years.
Ms Klarén said: "Polestar 0 project pushes us into new territory. While much of the industry invests in hybrids and combustion engines, we focus on solutions that eliminate emissions entirely.
"The innovation emerging from this project shows the power of collaboration and material science, and importantly, how well positioned we are to move the industry forward."

In 2025, Polestar achieved its best-ever retail sales with more than 60,000, a year-on-year increase of 34 per cent compared to the 2024 financial year.
A similar success story was seen in the UK, where Polestar's sales jumped 95 per cent compared to 2024, with almost 17,000 total registrations.
Michael Lohscheller, Polestar CEO, said: "If you are not reducing emissions while growing, you are choosing not to. Electrification delivers clear value for customers: lower running costs, lower emissions and greater peace of mind, as volatile oil prices and fuel scarcity mean pump anxiety is increasingly replacing range anxiety.
"As clean electricity scales, electric vehicles are becoming not just the sustainable choice, but the smarter, more reliable one."
