Emergency services have responded to the accident on the A64

Drivers are being warned of long delays on a key road between York and Leeds following a multi-vehicle collision involving a number of vehicles.

National Highways has reported that the A64 in North Yorkshire remains closed between the A1237 (near Tadcaster) and the A659 (near Askham Bryan).

The multi-vehicle collision is believed to have involved five vehicles, according to the transport organisation.

Emergency services are in attendance at the accident, while National Highways service providers are en route to assist with traffic management.

Data from National Highways suggested that normal traffic conditions would not return until around 12.30pm and 12.45pm.

This is also around the same time that the incident will be cleared, although it could take longer depending on the recovery efforts.

GB News has contacted the North Yorkshire Police and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service for a comment.

National Highways stated: "If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."

National Highways confirmed that a number of treatment measures would need to take place before the road can re-open.

This includes clearing debris from the road, dealing with a fuel spillage and assessing damage to a central reservation barrier.

A diversion route has been set out for drivers to follow to avoid the road closure and any delays associated with the accident.
