TK Maxx has issued an urgent safety alert for customers who purchased an Anker power bank between February and May 2025, warning of potential fire hazards.

The retailer is recalling the Anker Power Bank model A1647, a 20,000mAh device with a built-in USB-C cable priced at £19.99.

TK Maxx has instructed customers to "stop using the product immediately" due to the risk of overheating lithium-ion batteries.

According to the retailer's announcement, the faulty batteries could result in "localised smoking, melting and/or a risk of fire" during use.

The company confirmed the device fails to comply with the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.

Shoppers who purchased the affected power bank earlier this year can return it to any TK Maxx store for a complete refund or replacement.

Those seeking further information or assistance can contact the customer service team at
01923 473561 (UK) or 01 2476126 (Ireland). Alternatively, affected shoppers can email customerservice@tjxeurope.

The company urged shoppers to "spread the news", ensuring widespread awareness of the safety issue.

ANKER

TK Maxx's recall forms part of a broader global safety initiative launched by Anker in June 2025.

As the world's number one charging brand, the original notice encompasses a significantly wider scope than the TK Maxx announcement.

The manufacturer identified potential defects in lithium-ion battery cells from a single supplier during enhanced quality checks.

Anker explained: "While the likelihood of malfunction is considered minimal, out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to initiate a voluntary global recall of several Anker power bank models."

The company's recall encompasses three models, including the A1647 sold at TK Maxx.

The others are Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W, Built-In USB-C and Lightning Cable) — Model A1681; and Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W, Built-In USB-C Cable) — Model A1689.

Shoppers can verify if their device is affected by checking model numbers and submitting serial numbers through Anker's online recall form at anker.com/uk/rc2506-form.

The manufacturer offers replacements, refunds or gift cards for confirmed units, requiring photographic evidence before disposal at certified facilities accepting recalled lithium-ion batteries.

While product recalls aren't too common, they must always be taken seriously when they are issued.

Just last week, British shoppers were issued a fresh safety update after best-selling tumble dryers were recalled across Europe.

Two Hisense models were recalled by Argos following a manufacturer's request, with customers warned of a "potential fire hazard".

Those who own the impacted products were advised to unplug them from the power supply and stop using them immediately .

For further information or assistance, they should contact the Hisense customer support team at 0203 865 1446 or productrecall.gb@hisense.com.

Product safety notices can typically be found on the Office for Product Safety and Standards' official website. Major retailers also have dedicated web pages for these alerts.
