The comedian flew back to the UK from his home in the United States for today's court hearing

Comedian Russell Brand has appeared in a London court to face charges of rape and sexual assault.

As the 49-year-old arrived at Westminster Magistrates court this morning, he was greeted by a huge bank of press cameras, lining the entrance to court.


The Hollywood actor turned podcaster wore dark sunglasses and was surrounded by police and a small group of friends as he entered the west London court.

In courtroom number one, Brand stood in the glass-fronted dock, as he spoke to confirm his name, address, and date of birth.

He faces two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault and two counts of indecent assault.

The charges related to four separate women and are alleged to have taken place in Bournemouth and London between 1999 and 2005.

The internationally renowned celebrity was charged with the offices on April 4 after a lengthy police investigation.

However, as Brand was in the United States at the time of the charging decision, arrangements had to be made for his voluntary return to appear in court.paragraphs

Brand has been interviewed multiple times by police since an investigation by the Sunday Times, the Times and Channel 4's Dispatches in September 2023 revealed multiple serious allegations against him.

Suki Daddha, for the Crown Prosecution Service outlined the specifics of the charges he faces.

In 1999, it is claimed that a woman was raped in the Bournemouth area.

In 2001 a woman alleged she was indecently assaulted in the Westminster area of London.

Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring referred the case against Russell Brand to the Crown Court,

He was released and bail, and will appear at the Central Criminal Court, the Old Bailey on May 30.
