Pop star Katy Perry has sparked widespread outrage after footage emerged showing her hurling her 41st birthday cake onto the floor during a backstage celebration on her Lifetimes Tour.
The viral video, which has garnered millions of views across social media platforms, shows the singer throwing the large decorated dessert before her dancers were seen eating pieces directly from the ground.
The incident occurred during Ms Perry's tour stop in Sydney, Australia, where crew members and performers had gathered to mark the singer's birthday.
Social media users swiftly condemned the act, with many labelling it "wasteful", "disrespectful" and "tone-deaf", particularly given ongoing concerns about food insecurity globally.

The footage, captured after Ms Perry's Sydney performance, shows the singer still wearing her stage costume whilst surrounded by team members and backup dancers.
After blowing out candles on the white sheet cake, the Firework singer suddenly lifted the dessert and attempted to launch it at a crew member wearing a headset.
The man quickly ducked to avoid the incoming cake, causing Ms Perry to miss her target. The cake crashed onto the floor, splattering across the ground as the singer burst into laughter.
In the background, former Canadian Prime Minister and Ms Perry's new flame, Justin Trudeau, could be seen observing the scene.

A second claiming to be the baker's daughter posted: "My mom was the one that baked this cake, she was so excited about the opportunity to make a cake for Katy Perry and spent so long on it, I'm genuinely confused and upset as to why she would do this." (sic)
Critics particularly condemned dancers eating cake from the floor, calling it "demeaning" and "disgusting".
However, some supporters argued the gesture appeared spontaneous rather than malicious, with one defender stating: "There are actual things you can be mad at Katy Perry about but wasting a birthday cake should not be one of them."
