The reality TV star questioned the historic feat in a recent episode of her show

Nasa has issued a response after reality TV star Kim Kardashian sparked controversy by expressing her belief that the 1969 moon landing was staged.

During a recent episode of The Kardashians, she told a producer she thinks the historic event was fabricated.

The 45-year-old was filmed discussing supposed evidence with actress Sarah Paulson, reading what she claimed were quotes from astronaut Buzz Aldrin.

"There was no scary moment because it didn't happen. It could've been scary, but it wasn't because it didn't happen," she read aloud.

Ms Kardashian revealed she regularly explores conspiracy theories and has watched numerous videos featuring Mr Aldrin allegedly discussing the hoax. She even suggested contacting the Apollo 11 astronaut directly to discuss her theory.

Nasa's acting administrator Sean Duffy quickly responded to Ms Kardashian's claims on social media platform X.

He directly addressed the reality star, stating that America has successfully travelled to the moon on six separate occasions.

"Yes, @kimkardashian, we've been to the Moon before… 6 times!" Mr Duffy posted, adding that Nasa's Artemis programme plans to return there under President Trump's leadership.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

He expressed confidence about America's space ambitions, declaring they had won the previous space race and would triumph in the current one, too.

Rather than ignoring the space agency's response, Ms Kardashian engaged with Mr Duffy on X with a rather unexpected question.

"Wait.... what's the tea on 3I Atlas?!?!!!!!!!?????" she wrote, enquiring about the interstellar object that astronomers have identified as potentially the oldest comet ever observed.

Mr Duffy responded to her query by extending an invitation for her to go along to Nasa's upcoming lunar mission firsthand.

He offered Ms Kardashian the opportunity to visit Kennedy Space Center for the Artemis launch, presumably hoping to convince her of the reality of space exploration.

The moon landing conspiracy theory has endured for over five decades, despite repeated debunking by the scientific community. These false claims have gained renewed traction through social media platforms, where misinformation spreads rapidly.

The Institute of Physics has stated that every argument suggesting Nasa faked the moon landings has been thoroughly discredited.

Scientists and experts have consistently refuted these theories since they first emerged following the Apollo missions.

It remains uncertain which specific article Ms Kardashian was citing during the episode, or whether the alleged Mr Aldrin quotes were authentic.
