Live Nation reportedly paid Kanye West $15 million (£11 million) to headline Wireless Festival as part of an ambitious plan to rehabilitate the controversial rapper's career.

The world's largest concert promoter is said to have dispatched executives from Los Angeles to Mexico last month, where Mr West had been performing, in an effort to persuade him to return to Europe.

According to a source quoted by the Daily Mail: "Live Nation put together a big package of multiple shows across the globe, including Wireless."

However, the company allegedly disregarded warnings about booking the controversial hip-hop artist.

The source alleged: "They were advised that it would be mad to put him on stage in Haringey, so close to a large Jewish community in North London, and they didn't listen."

Before securing the Finsbury Park venue, it's believed Live Nation had approached both Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham about hosting West at their stadiums, but both clubs refused.

The source told the Daily Mail that the stadium rejections should have served as a clear warning sign about the difficulties ahead. "That should at least have shown them what a problem there was," they said.

Twickenham was also considered as a potential venue, but organisers concluded the audience demographic would not suit Mr West's fanbase.

Despite these setbacks, Live Nation allegedly pressed ahead with booking the rapper for three nights at Finsbury Park in Haringey, a location situated close to one of North London's largest Jewish communities.

The source also dismissed the festival's subsequent claims about consultation, stating: "They are now saying that they asked 'stakeholders' but this is simply ludicrous."

Mr West is said to have demanded and received the $15 million fee at a point when Wireless still lacked a confirmed headline act, according to the source.

The rapper was scheduled to perform from July 10 to 12, with an expected total audience of 150,000.

The financial consequences for Live Nation could prove devastating. Industry sources estimate the company faces losses of approximately $30 million following the festival's cancellation.

GB News has contacted Live Nation for comment on the source's claims.

Meanwhile, another source described the situation as "one of the biggest mess ups that they have made since Covid", placing it alongside the Ticketmaster controversy that resulted in legal action against the company.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood blocked Mr West's entry on the grounds that his presence would "not be conducive to the public good", prompting the festival's immediate cancellation.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer declared that Mr West "should never have been invited" to headline the event, adding that the government "stands firmly with the Jewish community" in confronting antisemitism.

Major sponsors including Pepsi, PayPal, Rockstar Energy Drinks, and Diageo, had already withdrawn their support before the ban was announced.

The Campaign Against Antisemitism welcomed the decision, with a spokesperson stating the government had "backed up its words with action" for once.

However, the reception to Mr West's ban from the UK has sparked a wider debate among supporters and opponents to the decision.

One prominent voice to condemn the government's decision was none other than GB News fan-favourite Bev Turner.

The Late Show Live regular branded the decision "authoritarian" and went as far as to claim it made her "ashamed to be British".

Meanwhile, fellow People's Channel fan-favourite Alex Armstrong accused Mr Starmer of "shameless hypocrisy" for banning Mr West from entering the UK.
