Vicky McClure returned as bomb disposal officer Lana Washington last week for the second series of ITV drama Trigger Point.

Whilst many were excited about a new season of the ITV drama Trigger Point, it has been left with divided opinions and backlash from its fanbase.

Line of Duty star Vicky McClure plays Lana ‘Wash’ Washington, the police bomb disposal officer who always seems to be met with bad luck on the job.

One week after facing backlash for its “woke” dialogue, in last night’s episode, Lana entered a house to find a woman had been tied up with a bomb strapped around her neck after receiving a terrifying call.

Treading carefully over to the woman, Lana attempted to free the woman from the weapon but was met with tragedy when the countdown ended and the woman was killed.

Lana luckily managed to walk away unscathed from the attack, but was left traumatised from the events which unfolded and counted her lucky stars she was able to escape once again.

However, while pleased Lana survived, viewers of the show were left fuming and commented on how “graphic” they thought the scenes were, taking to their social media accounts to comment.

Airing their opinions, one X user wrote: “That was like something out of a horror movie #TriggerPoint.”

“That was graphic,” another simply added as a third chimed in: “Just watched someone have their head blown off at 9pm on ITV #TriggerPoint.”

“*That* #TriggerPoint moment was like something out of Saw. On a Sunday Night on ITV1,” a fourth commented.

A fifth user noted: “Did we need to see such gruesome scenes this early on in the episode. It’s 9pm children may still be awake” (sic)

People also claimed Lana was a “muppet” for taking her helmet off when she found the woman tied up and claimed she would have had hearing damage by now with the amount of explosions she has encountered.

Sonya Reeves, played by Kerry Godliman, finally returned to the series last night and was the officer who pointed out that the overrides at the power point were operative at the time of a second explosion.

The discovery suggested that someone working on the inside may have been complicit, leaving them with fresh leads and the plot heading in a new direction.

One thing remained sure and that it was Lana who was once again in very real danger of being seconds late defusing a bomb.

The synopsis for next week’s episode reads: “The terror campaign continues when a journalist is sent a suspicious package, suggesting a new bomb set to explode that evening.

“The gang appears to be taunting the authorities, but a source then emerges from the shadows with what appears to be solid intelligence on the terror cell.

“With little else to go on, can mysterious informant Alex really be trusted?”
