The soap star took to social media to break the news

Former Coronation Street actor Calum Lill has revealed he has become a father for the first time.

The 31-year-old, best known for portraying villain Joel Deering on the ITV soap between 2023 and 2025, took to Instagram on Tuesday evening to share the happy news with fans.

Mr Lill and his fiancée, Roberta Mcclaron, welcomed a baby girl named Primrose approximately a month ago, though they chose to keep the arrival private until now.

The new dad posted several photographs documenting his daughter's first weeks, writing: "Welcome to the world Primrose Lill. Here's her first month in pictures. We're very tired but happier than ever. Thank you to our family and friends for all your support."

The announcement prompted an outpouring of congratulations from his former Weatherfield colleagues.

Tanisha Gorey, who portrays Asha Alahan in the soap, responded: "Congratulations, how amazing." Paddy Bever, known for playing Max Turner, added: "So wonderful, congrats to you both x."

Channique Sterling-Brown, who appeared alongside Lill as Dee Dee Bailey, offered particularly warm wishes whilst revealing she had played a part in selecting the newborn's name.

She commented: "So proud of you guys and welcome gorgeous Primrose, pleasure to have been on the name committee."

Other industry figures also sent their best wishes, with Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies writing: "Ahh, congratulations! X."

Jane Danson, who plays Leanne Battersby, added: "Congratulations. How gorgeous." (sic)

The couple's journey to parenthood follows a relationship that began in 2021, with Mr Lill proposing three years later.

At the time of their engagement, the actor quipped: "About time I made an honest woman of her."

He later revealed to The Mirror that he had concealed the ring in his Coronation Street dressing room whilst awaiting the ideal moment to pop the question, adding: "I'm so glad for the ring to finally be on her finger!"

Their pregnancy announcement came during the festive period, with the pair sharing a playful photograph featuring Ms Mcclaron's bump decorated to resemble a snowman whilst she held up a scan image.

Mr Lill captioned the post: "New character dropping April '26," a nod to his acting background.

Mr Lill's television career has spanned several popular British dramas, including appearances in Hollyoaks, Holby City and Doctors.

His most prominent role came as solicitor Joel Deering, a character who initially appeared charming but was eventually exposed as having groomed Lauren Bolton after meeting her during a police interview.

The storyline became one of Coronation Street's most gripping whodunnits in recent years, culminating in Joel's murder at Lauren's hands in September 2024.

Mr Lill briefly returned in July for a hallucination sequence involving Lauren.

Perhaps nobody was more shocked by his villainous turn than his own grandmother. A video capturing her reaction whilst watching the episode beside him went viral on TikTok, amassing over eight million views.
"You mean to tell me my grandson's a killer? You battered her!" she exclaimed. "I can't believe that. Honest to goodness!"
