The famous chef is believed to have included some rather unsavoury swipes towards his son-in-law's family during the speech

Holly Ramsay has spoken out in defence of her father Gordon Ramsay's wedding speech, revealing she was "overwhelmed with happiness" during the address at her marriage to Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty.

The couple exchanged vows at Bath Abbey on December 27, with a reception following at the Georgian venue Kin House.

The pair's nuptials were marred by controversy, with a bitter family fallout on the Peaty side overshadowing events in the press.

Proceedings were back in the headlines once again after the big day, with Mr Ramsay's wedding speech a source of contention. It was reported by The Sun that he included jibes at Mr Peaty's family, many of whom weren't in attendance.

According to the publication, the celebrity chef told Olympic swimmer Mr Peaty he was a “fortunate man” before commenting on how stunning his bride looked, adding: “Look at Tana, and that’s what you have to look forward to.”

The 59-year-old then appeared to direct a swipe at Mr Peaty's absent parents, turning to his daughter and saying: “Shame you don’t have the same.”

In her British Vogue interview published on January 2, the 25-year-old shared an image of herself and her new husband laughing during the chef's toast.

The photograph's accompanying caption seemingly defended the speech's contents as it read: "Listening to dad's speech, looking around the room and feeling overwhelmed with the love and the happiness on our guests' faces."

Ms Peaty, 26, became the first of Mr and Ms Ramsay's six children to marry.

The bride wore three gowns throughout her wedding day, having searched London's bridal shops with her mother and youngest sibling, two-year-old Jesse.

Her ceremony dress came from Elie Saab, selected to complement the abbey's 65-metre aisle and Gothic architecture.

"I knew I wanted to wear something very traditional and quite modest, with lace," the new Ms Peaty told Vogue. "I've always loved Grace Kelly and Kate Middleton's gowns: that beautiful high neckline, super feminine."

She paired the gown with Amina Muaddi heels, a Christmas gift from Mr Peaty, and a limited-edition 2016 Chanel shell-shaped minaudière sourced online.

For her first dance, Ms Peaty changed into her mother's 1996 wedding dress, a silk design featuring a V-neckline and pearl detailing.

"I tried it on and it fit me perfectly - it didn't need any altering," she said.

A honeymoon in Mauritius was gifted to the newlyweds by the Ramsays, which she described as their "wedding present."

"We're going to Mauritius to just lie by the sea – that was our wedding present from my parents. I had to tell Adam we weren't basing our honeymoon around a 25-metre pool…" she told the magazine.

The Michelin-starred chef played a significant role in planning the celebration, collaborating with the Savoy Grill team to create the wedding menu.

Mr Ramsay proved emotional throughout the preparations, with Ms Peaty noting he frequently became tearful when discussing the occasion.

She recalled asking him about transport to the church: "The other day I was asking him which car he and I would take to the church, and he welled up immediately."

Sir David and Lady Victoria Beckham were among the high-profile guests at the reception, photographed alongside the newlyweds and Ms Peaty's parents.

The couple selected George Michael's A Different Corner for their first dance, a song the bride revealed they had chosen when their relationship began.
