A new documentary about the Grenfell Tower fire has left many viewers shocked and angered as it exposes systemic failings that contributed to one of the UK’s deadliest residential disasters.
Released on Netflix, Grenfell: Uncovered revisits the events of June 14, 2017 and attempts to highlight how the tragedy - which claimed 72 lives - could have been prevented.
The film, led by journalist and author of Show Me the Bodies: How We Let Grenfell Happen, Peter Apps, takes viewers on a journey through the long chain of events that led to the disaster.
The documentary explores the role of the cladding used on the tower, the internal Arconic emails, and the ongoing use of such materials on buildings across the UK and beyond.

It also looks into the failure of the “stay put” fire safety policy - the belief that residents should remain in their flats, relying on the building’s design to contain a blaze - a policy that ultimately cost many lives as people became trapped.
The film also examines the role of the Government, highlighting how a shift towards cost-cutting and deregulation weakened safety standards and created a vacuum in which unsafe materials were approved and used.
Through a mix of factual exposition and personal stories, the documentary captures the heartbreak of those who lived through the fire.
The stories of former Grenfell resident Eddie Daffarn, firefighters David Badillo and Chris Batcheldor, father and daughter Marcio and Luana Gomes, Omar Alhaj Ali, and sisters Bernie Bernard and Jackie Leger, give a human voice to the tragedy.

But through the grief, the strength of the community shines. We won’t forget. #JusticeForGrenfell,” another person commented.
One viewer concluded: “A really tough watch but a must see. So many that should be held to account for this tragedy. And Eric Pickles' conduct in the inquiry was absolutely disgraceful. Justice for the 72 #Grenfelluncovered”.
