The 'secret' daughter of the Queen icon had been battling a rare form of spinal cancer

The woman known as Freddie Mercury's secret daughter has died at the age of 48 following a prolonged fight against chordoma, a rare form of spinal cancer.

Her husband Thomas confirmed to the Daily Mail that she passed away peacefully, leaving behind two sons aged nine and seven.

"B is now with her beloved and loving father in the world of thoughts," Thomas said. "Her ashes were scattered to the wind over the Alps."

The Queen frontman affectionately called his daughter "Bibi", as well as his "trésor" — French for treasure — and his "little froggie".

Her existence remained unknown to the public until biographer Lesley Ann Jones revealed it in her book Love, Freddie, which was published last September.

According to Ms Jones, Mr Mercury fathered Bibi during an affair in 1976, and the author has stated she possesses DNA evidence confirming the relationship.

The biographer revealed that two Queen songs were composed about his daughter: "Bijou", meaning jewel, and "Don't Try So Hard".

Bibi grew up knowing Mr Mercury was her biological father, watching him perform in concert, and tracking Queen's world tours on a globe he had given her.

Before his death from bronchial pneumonia caused by Aids in November 1991, the singer entrusted his daughter with 17 volumes of handwritten personal journals.

These diaries formed the foundation of Ms Jones's biography, with the author working alongside Bibi for four years to bring the book to publication.

Ms Jones described herself as "devastated" by the loss of a woman who had become her close friend over the years of collaboration.

"She was very ill throughout the four years that we worked together," Ms Jones said. "But she was on a mission. She put herself and her own needs last."

Bibi's cancer had first appeared when she was young, prompting her family to relocate frequently to access the best available treatment for the rare condition.

After years in remission, the disease returned, which prompted her to reach out to Jones.

Towards the end of her life, Bibi undertook a final journey to South America with her husband and children, fulfilling her bucket list dream of visiting the Inca ruins at Machu Picchu.

Mr Mercury's former fiancée, Mary Austin, had allegedly denied knowledge of Bibi's existence, a response that deeply upset her.

Ms Jones revealed that Bibi had never wished to make her identity public because she worked as a doctor and feared it would compromise her career and her patients.

In a statement released before the book's publication, Bibi explained her decades of silence: "I didn't want to share my Dad with the whole world."

She described the difficulty of mourning her father at 15, whilst fans worldwide grieved for Mr Mercury.

"For 30 years I had to build my life and family without him and accept that he wouldn't be there to share the happy moments with us," she wrote.

In a handwritten letter included in the book, she stated: "He adored me and was devoted to me. He cherished me like a treasured possession."

Her family, who reside in France, are now considering releasing photographs of her with Mr Mercury.
