Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff has been pictured filming scenes for his upcoming TV return.

The former Top Gear host hasn't returned to TV presenting duties since being involved in a horrific crash on the BBC series back in December 2022.

The crash resulted in Flintoff sustaining facial injuries and fractured ribs as well as a five-week hospital stay.

It also prompted the BBC to launch an investigation into the crash, with Flintoff reportedly receiving a £9 million payout soon after.

The BBC has since axed Top Gear for the foreseeable future but Flintoff's return to screens in a different show appears to be gaining traction.

Flintoff has been pictured filming in Sri Lanka for the second series of his Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams.

The first season followed Flintoff as he attempted to persuade an unlikely group of Preston-based teens to pursue cricket.

Flintoff has taken the team to India and Sri Lanka for the second series, with photos circulating on social media showing him filming in the latter.

Speaking of Flintoff's new filming venture, a source said to the Sun: "This will be a huge comfort to his fans because it shows he’s healing well and returning to two of his greatest passions — sport and television.

"It’s obvious that there is some scarring, which everyone expected, but Freddie looks to have made huge progress since he was last seen in public playing cricket.

"He’s clearly comfortable enough to get in front of a camera again — something which was not the case this time last year.

"They’re nervous first steps, as he’s recovering both mentally and physically, but the TV show he’s making is a real passion project for him."

Flintoff's reemergence into the world of TV comes just weeks after his Top Gear co-stars Chris Harris and Paddy McGuinness addressed the situation and fallout from Top Gear.

"He’s alright! I’ve not spoken to him for a while but you know he’s getting on with it. He’s a very resilient character is Fred so I’ve no doubt he’ll be as right as rain," McGuinness said on ITV's Good Morning Britain in February.

"I sound like a politician now (but) I can’t really get into the ins and outs of it because there’s all stuff still going on with Top Gear and what have you. So at some point it will get sorted."

Harris issued a similarly vague response in November when asked about Flintoff by BBC Breakfast.

"I think he's healing, you know. It was a serious incident, I'm not going to say more than that. As I've said in the book and in a few interviews I've given, I'm so proud of the fact that 'Team Top Gear' kept everything quiet and we were dignified.

"There was nothing out there about what happened (and) there won't be, there's no mole in the organisation. I'm really proud of that so I hope you understand - as long as he's healing, it's great to see him out and about and being passionate about doing cricket.

"I'm sad I'm not doing Top Gear at the moment but that's life. It's the best thing for him right now."
