The allegation came to light in October last year

A Strictly Come Dancing star who was taken into custody on suspicion of rape last October will not be prosecuted, Hertfordshire Police announced on Tuesday evening.

The man, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, was detained on October 13, 2025 following allegations that he had assaulted a woman.

Detectives have now concluded their investigation, determining that the evidence gathered was not sufficient to support criminal proceedings.

The individual was released on bail following his initial arrest while officers conducted their enquiries into the allegations.

Hertfordshire Police confirmed that after consulting with the Crown Prosecution Service that investigators decided against pursuing charges, meaning the man will face no further action in connection with the case.

The force released a detailed statement outlining the timeline of events, revealing that the suspect's bail had been extended on January 6 until April 7, 2026 to permit additional enquiries.

"Early advice was sought from the Crown Prosecution Service, but detectives determined that there was insufficient evidence to bring forward criminal charges," Hertfordshire Police stated.

The case has now been formally closed, with the constabulary confirming no further action will be taken against the arrested individual.

According to reports at the time of the arrest, the woman who made the allegations had encountered the man through his involvement with the BBC dance competition.

It is understood the alleged incident bore no connection to the most recent series of Strictly Come Dancing, which broadcasts annually between September and December from Elstree Studios in Borehamwood.

A BBC spokesperson told GB News at the time: “It would not be appropriate to comment on an ongoing police investigation.”

The programme has weathered considerable controversy in recent years, including allegations of "bullying" behaviour levelled against former professional Giovanni Pernice by celebrity partner Amanda Abbington, which prompted a costly internal review.

Dancer Graziano Di Prima was dismissed after admitting to kicking his partner Zara McDermott during rehearsals.

In response to the scandals, the BBC implemented enhanced welfare measures ahead of the 2024 series, including mandatory chaperones during training sessions and dedicated welfare producers for both celebrities and professionals.
