‘Disgrace!’ Dan Wootton blasts BBC as it 'cancels' Roisin Murphy over trans row

Dan Wootton has taken aim at the BBC’s decision to remove singer Roisin Murphy from a scheduled programme weeks after the singer faced online backlash as a result of her views on puberty blockers.
Five hours of Murphy’s songs, interviews and concert highlights were set to be broadcast on Radio 6 Music in a celebratory broadcast about the Irish singer’s career.
The scheduled show was set to be aired between midnight and 5am on Monday, and repeated at the same time on Tuesday.
The BBC claim Murphy’s views on trans did not prompt the decision, but instead it was more to do with a desire to showcase rapper Little Simz’s work instead.

Murphy, 50, was attacked with abuse online when a post on her private Facebook page about puberty blockers was shared.
GB News presenter Wootton has dubbed the decision a “disgrace”, while Christine Hamilton argued it is “the ugly power of the mob”.

“This decision by the BBC is a disgrace”, he said.
“They loved Roisin Murphy until she expressed a view about puberty blockers which the vast majority of the British public share.
“This is a bridge too far now. I think the only thing that deserves to be cancelled is the British Bashing Corporation [BBC] itself.”
Former BBC employee Matthew Laza argued that the BBC is a “treasure” in a public life, but admitted that it was a “mistake” to cancel the Roisin Murphy showing.

“Management fails. Radio 6 should have reversed this decision.”
“Puberty blockers are f***ing, absolutely desolate, big pharma laughing all the way to the bank,” Murphy wrote.
“Little mixed-up kids are vulnerable and need to be protected, that’s just true.
“Please don’t call me a terf, please don’t keep using that word against women.”
Terf (Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist) is a term used to describe gender-critical feminists.
A BBC spokesperson told GB News: “The Artist Collections from our archive are regularly on rotation and frequency change to reflect station-wide initiatives as they get confirmed.
“There was no other reason for the change.”
