The actor made a return to her radio show on Monday evening after quitting Strictly

Amanda Abbington has been showered with praise after making a return to work duties following her abrupt Strictly Come Dancing departure.

The actor made the decision to quit the BBC show for "personal reasons" one week ago as she shared an emotional farewell statement after being given a bye on "medical grounds" just a few days prior.

Now, the Strictly star has returned to her spot as co-host for her Boogaloo radio show on Monday evenings alongside fellow actress Sue Vincent.

She announced the career news on Instagram with a short video clip alongside Vincent prior to the pair hitting the airwaves for the first time since she left Strictly.

"Hello...I'm back. I can't see anything, you're a blur," Abbington began as she removed her glasses in the clip.

She provided the details of her return as she continued: "We're going to the Boogaloo, 6 o'clock tonight we're back on and we're going to be playing some amazing tunes - all by female artists.

"It's an homage to all the great singer-songwriters and women singers and there's one song at the end that's not but we had to put that in.

"It's lovely, I'm glad we're back, come and join us tonight at 6 o'clock on the Boogaloo," Abbington excitedly signed off.

Abbington's fiancé Jonathan Goodwin - who urged fans not to "judge" in a cryptic post following his other half's Strictly departure - also shared the news on his own social media page.

"Tonight 6-8pm on @boogalooradio... Tune in for giggles and choons with the pair of Charlies," Goodwin penned alongside a snap of Abbington and Vincent in the radio booth.

Abbington's return to work clearly went down well with listeners as the Sherlock actor proceeded to share a number of supportive messages following the show.

One fan applauded: "That was a wonderful, wonderful show tonight. There's no better way to start the week than listening to these two beauties. Thank you for cheering me up, making me smile and for the brilliant tunes. It's so good to have you both back. You've been missed."

A second echoed: "Always a wonderful end to a Monday," followed by a series of love heart emojis.

While a third similarly praised: "Cracking show ladies! Laughed (a lot), cried and sung my little socks off. Perfect way to wind down on a Monday evening, these two make it now one of the better days of the week." (sic)

Strictly had to continue as usual this past weekend despite Abbington's exit as another celebrity was sent packing following the dreaded dance-off.

Following the routines of Halloween Week, it was Zara McDermott who was sent home after losing out to Adam Thomas in the dance-off.

McDermott followed in the footsteps of Les Dennis, Nikita Kanda, Jody Cundy, and Eddie Kadi to be the fifth contestant eliminated which means, along with Abbington's withdrawal, just nine celebrities remain in the competition.

Abbington's pro partner Giovanni Pernice - who penned an emotional tribute to Abbington following her exit - remains part of the show's cast to take part in the professional group numbers.
