Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer have shared a joint message

Five of Friends' main cast have released a joint statement following the death of Matthew Perry on Saturday, October 28.

Perry was 54 years of age when he died as a result of "accidental drowning" at his home in Los Angeles it's been reported, with audio from the 911 dispatch call seeming to confirm "drowning" as a cause.

In the days after his death, a number of Perry's Friends co-stars paid tribute to the actor, including Maggie Wheeler and Selma Blair.

However, Perry's long-serving co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer remained silent until Monday evening.

The core cast have now released a joint statement in which they said all five were "utterly devastated" by the news.

The joint statement reads: "We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family.

"There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.

"In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world," they added to People.

Perry portrayed Chandler Bing throughout all 10 seasons of Friends alongside his five main co-stars.

As well as the show's main five stars, series creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane were joined by executive producer Kevin Bright as they also issued a joint statement following Perry's death.

The Friends writers penned: "We are shocked and deeply, deeply saddened by our beloved friend Matthew’s passing.

"It still seems impossible. All we can say is that we feel blessed to have had him as part of our lives. He was a brilliant talent.

"It’s a cliché to say that an actor makes a role their own, but in Matthew’s case, there are no truer words.

"From the day we first heard him embody the role of Chandler Bing, there was no one else for us."

Tributes from across the globe have flooded in for Perry following his death, although some fans were forced to defend the late actor in light of horrific trolling by an American comedian.

Former Saturday Night Live writer Kevin Brennan sparked outrage with a series of "disgusting" posts on X, formerly Twitter, following Perry's death.
