The Greek entry is among this year's early favourites ahead of Saturday's final

Akylas Mytilinaios is representing Greece at this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna with his catchy track, Ferto.

The 27-year-old singer hails from Serres, which ranks as Central Macedonia's second-largest city.

His path to Eurovision began during the pandemic, when he started sharing ukulele covers on TikTok, quickly building a devoted following. That same year, he released his debut original track, Fthinókraso.

Earlier in 2026, the Greek artist secured his spot at the international competition by triumphing in the Sing for Greece national selection with Ferto.

Greece has entered Eurovision on 45 occasions but claimed victory just once, back in 2005. Akylas hopes to change that record this year.

What does Ferto mean?

The title Ferto translates from Greek to "bring it," serving as a rallying cry that echoes throughout the song's chorus.

Akylas co-wrote the track alongside three collaborators: Orfeas Nonis, Theofilos Pouzbouris, and Thomas Papathanasis.

The songwriting team crafted the piece specifically for the Eurovision stage.

The Greek singer has expressed his enthusiasm about the opportunity, describing himself as "so happy and so grateful" to perform at the contest.

In a social media post about his upcoming appearance, he wrote: "Look at me, mummy!"

Before gaining widespread recognition, Akylas first captured public attention through his pandemic-era TikTok videos featuring ukulele-accompanied song covers.

His distinctive style resonated with viewers, establishing him as a rising talent in the Greek music scene.

The singer's profile grew further when he competed on the eighth series of The Voice Greece in 2022.

Two years later, his single Atelié became a hit, making its way into the Greek charts.

Greece achieved a strong result at last year's contest, with Klavdia finishing sixth and collecting 231 points for her entry Asteromáta.

Greece's Eurovision history spans 45 appearances, yet the country has secured victory on just a single occasion, when Helena Paparizou triumphed in 2005 with My Number One.

The competition this year has been overshadowed by controversy, with Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Iceland all withdrawing following the European Broadcasting Union's decision to permit Israel's continued participation amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

The BBC has backed the EBU's stance, stating: "This is about enforcing the rules of the EBU and being inclusive."
