Holidaymakers will have more options if looking to explore northeastern Romania and neighbouring Eastern European destinations

Wizz Air has unveiled plans for a new route connecting Birmingham Airport with Suceava in Romania, launching at the end of the year, on December 15, 2025.

The budget carrier will operate flights three times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with fares starting from £17.99.

The announcement marks another expansion for Wizz Air at Birmingham Airport, where the airline already operates services to several Romanian destinations including Bucharest, Craiova and Sibiu.

The new Suceava route will complement the carrier's recently announced Birmingham-Sibiu service, which will begin in September. The thrice-weekly service will use Wizz Air's modern Airbus A321neo aircraft, recognised as among the most fuel-efficient planes currently operating.

The expansion forms part of the airline's broader £12billion Customer First Compass transformation programme aimed at enhancing passenger experience whilst aiming for sustainable growth.

Wizz Air is simultaneously reopening its base at Ștefan cel Mare International Airport in Suceava, establishing multiple new European routes. The rollout gives more options for travellers looking to explore northeastern Romania and neighbouring Eastern European destinations.

Corporate communications manager at Wizz Air Olivia Harangozó said: "We are delighted to be adding Suceava to our route network from Birmingham. The city and surrounding region offer incredible natural beauty and historical significance, making it an ideal destination for travellers hoping to discover somewhere off the beaten track."

Aviation director at Birmingham Airport Tom Screen added: “It’s great news that Wizz Air has decided to increase its presence at Birmingham Airport with the launch of a new route to Suceava. This is a brand-new addition on our departures board and accompanies Wizz Air's current direct routes from Birmingham to Rome, Bucharest, Craiova, Budapest and Sibiu.

"With flights launching in December, we hope that travellers are as excited as us to explore the Christmas markets and Romanian culture through this convenient and affordable connection."

Suceava serves as the gateway to Bukovina, a historical region in northeastern Romania renowned for its UNESCO-listed painted monasteries. The destination offers visitors access to remarkable cultural heritage sites alongside dramatic mountain landscapes.

The December launch timing allows travellers to experience traditional Romanian Christmas markets whilst exploring a region that remains relatively undiscovered by mainstream tourism.

Meanwhile, Jet2.com and Jet2CityBreaks have bolstered their Iceland programme for Winter 25/26, adding over 1,500 seats from London Stansted Airport.

The expansion includes new Thursday services on February 12 and 19, 2026, additional Monday flights on February 16, and Sunday departures on February 22.

The leisure airline now offers Iceland flights from 12 UK airports, including Belfast International, Bristol, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester. The February half-term additions respond to sustained customer demand for trips to the Nordic destination.
