A small town in Wales could be one of the best places for a UK staycation

Wales is known for its stunning landscapes, peaceful towns and traditional British beaches.

Some parts of the country are popular with tourists, but there could be a hidden gem people don't know about.


Barmouth is a seaside town in north-west Wales with a tiny population of around 2,500, according to the latest census.

Visit Snowdonia explained the town manages to feel quiet, even in the busiest months.

It said: "In summer, its big sandy beach is a magnet for visitors, yet there's so much space along miles of unbroken sands that it never gets overcrowded."

While it may be lesser-known, it is a seaside resort with a lot to do.

Holidaymakers can enjoy a relaxing coffee in one of many cosy shops, or enjoy a day cycling, walking or even at the beach.

Visitors can explore the area by taking part in the Heritage Trail.

The route has lots of scenic stops and has received lots of praise from those who have visited.

A Tripadvisor user wrote: "Wow! Absolutely stunning!

"Push through the 1000 steps (if you start this end) it's worth it!

"Took three other kids up... they all enjoyed it immensely and wowed at the views."

Another added: "A hard climb but rewards are the stunning view... you won't regret it."

There are lots of pubs worth visiting in Barmouth, and The Royal has gained popular reviews.

One more added: "The best pub in Barmouth. We visited here recently and were made to feel very welcome. The staff do a great job in what is a very big and busy pub.

"Food is lovely in here and well worth a visit if you are in the area."
