The new destination will be added for summer 2026

British holidaymakers searching for stunning mountain scenery without the huge price tag might want to consider TUI's latest addition to its Lakes & Mountains programme.

The travel giant is launching trips to Zakopane, a charming Polish mountain town that most people have never heard of.

Nestled in Poland's southernmost tip and wrapped by the spectacular Tatra Mountains, this destination delivers Alpine vibes at a fraction of the cost.

It is just two and a half hours from the UK, and local prices are affordable - you can grab a pint and pizza for less than £10.

Nature lovers will find plenty to explore in the surrounding mountains, with trails suited to every ability level.

One of the standout spots is Morskie Oko, a crystal-clear turquoise lake that regularly features among Europe's most beautiful.

There's also the famous Giewont peak, which locals say resembles a sleeping knight, and the gorgeous Five Lakes Valley for gentler walks.

Visitors can take the Kasprowy Wierch cable car or hop on the Gubałówka funicular for breathtaking views without breaking a sweat.

Wildlife enthusiasts might spot marmots, chamois, golden eagles, or even brown bears roaming the mountainsides.

Those who prefer to stay off the trails won't be short of things to do in Zakopane itself. The town's Krupówki Street is packed with markets, beer halls, and local craft shops worth browsing.

Looking for something more relaxed? Horse-drawn carriages wind through the lively streets, offering a lovely way to soak up the atmosphere.

The thermal baths are another huge draw, featuring expansive pools filled with naturally heated, mineral-rich water and surrounded by gorgeous mountain panoramas.

If you fancy a city break mid-holiday, Kraków is less than two hours away by train - perfect for a day trip to explore Poland's cultural gem.

Commercial director at TUI UK & Ireland, Chris Logan, said: "As experts in Lakes & Mountains holidays, we know a good thing when we see one, and Zakopane ticks every box. It's a fresh alternative to the Alps, offering the same dramatic scenery but in a less expensive and discovered setting. With emerald lakes, Tatra peaks, wooden chalets and vibrant Goral culture, it brings something genuinely new to our programme."

Holidays run from May to September, with flights departing from 16 UK airports via EasyJet and Ryanair. A seven-night stay at the 3T Apartamenty ApartArt Zakopane starts from £616 per person on a room-only basis.
