Trains between Glasgow and London can be purchased from £33

Budget-friendly rail operator Lumo has just kicked off a new all-electric service linking Glasgow Queen Street and Falkirk High with Edinburgh, the North East of England and London.

Passengers can take advantage of low fares, travelling between Newcastle and Glasgow for just £10.90, while journeys from London to Glasgow start at only £33.10.

The company's strong track record for customer satisfaction on board means this new route should make getting between these popular destinations much easier for everyone.

The first service departed Glasgow Queen Street at 18:16 on Monday this week, and pulled into London King's Cross a minute ahead of schedule.

Managing director of First Rail Open Access, Stuart Jones, said: "This is a landmark moment which will boost connectivity between Scotland and England, offering a sustainable travel option whilst also boosting economic growth.

"It was a particular pleasure to celebrate the launch of our inaugural services in style with a brilliant range of guests from our dedicated team, as well as our partners from Scotland and across the border.

"We're proud to champion Scotland and look forward to providing the unique Lumo service to even more customers from this week."

Paul Tetlaw from Transform Scotland added: “We welcome the new Lumo services from Glasgow and Falkirk via the East Coast Main Line.

"There is a significant market of people who currently drive or fly to the North East of England and London who now have the opportunity to switch to the train. The new services soon to be launched from Stirling will help to build on that modal shift to rail.”

For now, passengers can hop on two northbound trains each weekday, with one southbound service available.

It's expected that the new Lumo connection will draw even more visitors to Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games happening in July 2026.
