The issue has been resolved, but a knock-on effect may mean further delays

London Stansted Airport is experiencing major disruption today due to an "ongoing IT issue" affecting multiple systems.

The technical problems have impacted check-in, baggage handling and security operations at the busy London airport.

Stansted has issued several statements this morning regarding the situation.

The airport explained that "a number of systems were affected, including check-in, baggage and security", causing delays to both arrivals and departures.

The latest update confirmed that despite the issue being resolved hours ago, "some departing flights may still experience delays".

Passengers have been advised to "check the status of their flight before travelling to the airport." They should also "stay in contact with their airline for the latest flight information".

Stansted Airport serves several popular airlines, including Jet2, Ryanair, easyJet, and TUI.

The London airport apologised to passengers for any inconvenience caused, thanking them for their understanding.

However, disgruntled holidaymakers have taken to X to report scenes of "chaos" throughout the morning.

One traveller reported: "I queued outside the airport for one hour and am now returning home. It was the cabin bag only queue, but it moved barely five to 10 metres in one hour.

"It's total chaos, staff don't seem to have any plan to deal with the problem. It's absolute carnage," said another traveller.

A third reported similar scenes: "The airport is chaos, staff don't know what to do, people are sending passengers to the wrong drop off, tensions are high as they struggle to find order."

The same passenger noted that "most flights are struggling to get their bags loaded into the planes due to 2 belts being operational".

One passenger highlighted communication issues: "People are stuck there with no information at all, they lost flights, and neither the airport nor the airlines give an explanation."

It appears to be an unlucky day for many travellers as Jet2 also warns of potential disruption due to today's marathon in Leeds.

The airline warned that closures will be in place between 4am and 6pm, and that passengers should "allow plenty of time" to get to the airport ahead of take-off.
