A Spanish island is the most sought-after holiday destination this month, and experts have shared some of the best deals right now

British families are flocking to Tenerife in record numbers this summer, with the Canary Island experiencing an extraordinary 65.1 per cent jump in August holiday bookings compared to last year.

Fresh figures show the Spanish island has overtaken all other destinations to claim the top spot for UK family getaways during the school holidays. Here are some of the best deals this month.

The volcanic island's guaranteed sunshine and gorgeous beaches continue to draw parents and children looking for warm weather, according to the data from lastminute.com.

Another destination making waves includes Malta, which has emerged as the surprise success story of summer 2025. Indeed, British family bookings have jumped 45.2 per cent compared to the previous year.

  2. Malta
  3. Majorca
  4. The Algarve
  5. The Turkish Riviera, Antalya

The Mediterranean island nation of Malta now ranks as the second most sought-after destination for UK families, according to the analysis. Parents and children are drawn to Malta's blend of historical sites, pristine waters and low prices.

The archipelago's compact size makes it ideal for families wanting to combine beach relaxation with cultural exploration. This sharp rise in popularity suggests British holidaymakers are increasingly looking beyond traditional Spanish resorts for their August breaks.

Majorca is one more Spanish island that continues to attract British families, recording an 11.8 per cent rise in bookings and securing third place among the most popular August destinations.

The Balearic island remains a trusted choice for straightforward beach holidays. Portugal's Algarve has experienced a modest 8.5 per cent decline but still features among the top destinations.

Turkish resorts have had the biggest drop, with Antalya on the Turkish Riviera seeing bookings plummet by 37.1 per cent year-on-year. Despite this, the destination is still the fifth most popular choice for British families looking for August sunshine.

The data showed there has been a big shift in family travel patterns, with groups of four people aged 11 and above showing a 13.3 per cent increase in bookings.

Package holidays to these top five destinations start from £311 per person with lastminute.com, subject to availability. Whether families choose Tenerife's volcanic landscapes, Malta's historic harbours, Majorca's sandy shores, the Algarve's dramatic coastline or Antalya's bustling markets, each destination promises memorable experiences combining sunshine, seaside relaxation and family adventure.
