British holidaymakers will soon have a new option for reaching Morocco, with airline Royal Air Maroc set to introduce flights from London Gatwick to Tetouan this spring.
The carrier is launching the service on March 29, with planes departing twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays.
It's good news for travellers looking to explore northern Morocco, as the route opens up a region that sits just south of Tangier on the country's north-eastern coast, which has been compared to beautiful parts of Spain.
The Moroccan National Tourist Office is backing the initiative with an aim to attract more visitors to this corner of the country. An Embraer 190 aircraft will operate the connection.

| GETTYRoyal Air Maroc is establishing a fresh base at Tetouan-Sania R'mel Airport as part of this expansion.
The Gatwick connection is one of six new routes the airline is rolling out simultaneously, with flights also heading to Brussels, Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga and Paris.
It's a significant push into European markets for the carrier. For British travellers, having this direct link means easier access to a part of Morocco that has been more difficult to get to.

| GETTYThe city has earned the nickname "the daughter of Granada" thanks to its stunning Hispano-Moorish architecture, which mirrors the famous Spanish city.
Its medina, or old town, is so special that UNESCO has granted it World Heritage Site status.
But it's not all about history and architecture. Beach fans will love that Tetouan's airport serves as the gateway to Tamouda Bay, a gorgeous seaside resort boasting 15km of sandy coastline.
