The first flights will depart later this year

Norse Atlantic Airways will become the first airline to operate direct flights between Manchester and Bangkok, with the inaugural service launching on November 26, 2025.

The Norwegian carrier announced the historic route this month, offering return fares from £259.

Currently, no airline provides direct flights between Manchester and Thailand's capital, forcing travellers to book time-consuming connections through other airports.

The new route addresses what Norse Atlantic describes as "the region's largest underserved long-haul market", with the airline positioning itself as a disruptor in affordable long-distance travel.

The airline identified substantial untapped demand for the route, with more than 100,000 passengers travelling annually between Manchester and Bangkok through indirect connections.

An additional 100,000 passengers are estimated to be using other UK airports due to the lack of direct service from Manchester. This represents over 200,000 potential customers who currently face lengthy journeys with at least one stopover.

The new service will eliminate these inconvenient connections, offering passengers from across Northern England direct access to one of Asia's most popular destinations.

Norse Atlantic's entry into this market comes as the carrier continues its expansion strategy in the long-haul sector. CEO of Norse Atlantic Airways Bjørn Tore Larsen said: "We don't just follow demand, we unlock it. This route has been waiting to happen, and we're proud to be the ones making it a reality.

"Manchester is a key gateway to the North of England, and Bangkok is a magnet for adventure, business, and culture. Connecting the two cities is a natural next step for Norse as we continue to disrupt and expand in the long-haul space."

The airline's strategy focuses on making long-haul travel accessible rather than treating it as a luxury reserved for wealthy passengers. The Manchester-Bangkok service exemplifies this approach, providing an affordable alternative to existing indirect options.

Manchester Airport managing director Chris Woodroofe welcomed the announcement: "Bangkok is one of the most exciting destinations on the planet and is rightly one of the most popular.

"Many people from the region travel there every year, but until now they have had to book connecting flights. This new route will make a huge difference by meaning people can get there directly from the UK's global gateway in the North."

He highlighted opportunities for inbound tourism, noting visitors could "experience our vibrant cities, enjoy our spectacular scenery, study in our elite universities and even watch our football clubs."

Flights depart Manchester at 11:30pm, arriving in Bangkok at 6pm local time.
