More flights will go between Liverpool and an Italian city

Ryanair will run more routes between the UK and Italy, as it announces plans to base a third aircraft at Turin Airport for the Winter 2025/26 season.

The expansion represents a $300million (£220million) investment and means the budget carrier will transport three million passengers annually. The airline's enhanced winter programme will feature 32 routes from Turin, including two new services to Liverpool and Pescara.

The Liverpool route will connect Britons to the Italian city, which has been described as "a multifaceted city rich in historic splendour" by experts at Italia.IT.

They added: "Elegant and earnest, Turin boasts a one-of-a-kind artistic and cultural heritage."

The expansion will see Ryanair operate 368 weekly flights from the city, representing 30 per cent growth compared to previous schedules.

Sixteen existing routes will benefit from increased frequencies, including services to London Stansted, Madrid, Dublin, Porto and various destinations in Calabria, Sardinia and Sicily.

The airline is positioning Turin as a crucial gateway for both leisure and business travel in northern Italy.

To mark the announcement, Ryanair has launched a two-day seat sale with fares starting from £24.99. The carrier's partnership with Turin Airport dates back to 1999, when it operated its first flight from London Stansted to the Italian city.

The expansion will support more than 2,300 jobs in the region, according to the airline.

Ryanair's CEO Eddie Wilson said: "Ryanair continues to deliver record growth across Italy, investing in regional airports like Turin where this Winter we will provide 1.5 million low fare seats (up 30 per cent growth) across 32 routes, offering more choice than ever for passengers flying from Turin."

Turin Airport CEO Andrea Andorno added: "I am very satisfied with the result we announced. The third Ryanair aircraft based at our airport confirms the strategic value of the joint work we have carried out so far with the airline.

"With this move, Turin also improves its positioning on the map of European tourist destinations." He expressed confidence that the addition of the third-based aircraft would benefit the entire region.

In other Ryanair news, the airline announced it will expand free baggage allowance within weeks in a huge win for holidaymakers.

Britons will now be able to take larger luggage on board for their free carry-on, which will expand its dimensions from 40x25x20cm to 40x30x20cm.

The budget carrier's current "personal bag" allowance of 20 litres will also grow to 24 litres with the dimensional adjustment.
