Britons can jet off to Spain, or visit some of the top skiing destinations

London City Airport is rolling out fresh winter travel choices as British Airways CityFlyer prepares to start flying to Madrid eleven times weekly from December 1.

The capital's most central airport is also bringing back favourite ski routes to Innsbruck, Geneva and Chambery, as leisure trips now make up 60 per cent of all journeys.

British Airways CityFlyer's new Madrid service will connect London with Spain's capital nearly twice daily, giving holidaymakers easy access to one of Europe's most exciting cities.

The airline is also bringing back its winter ski connections, with Innsbruck flights returning just before the Christmas holidays.

Geneva and Chambéry routes are coming back too, perfect for anyone planning Alpine adventures. Travellers can also reach snowy slopes through existing flights to Milan and Zurich.

For those who prefer warmer weather, the airport keeps its year-round connections to San Sebastian and Ibiza running, while festive season flights to Dublin and Rome are seeing strong demand.

The airport's shift toward holiday travel marks a major change from its traditional business focus. Six out of every 10 passengers now fly for leisure rather than work, and that number looks set to grow.

To spread the word about Madrid and other winter destinations, London City has launched targeted online campaigns. They're using major digital platforms to reach potential travellers and spark interest in last-minute getaways.

The airport submitted plans in January to welcome Airbus A320neo aircraft, which would open up even more leisure destinations. This would let them add new routes without increasing the total number of flights.

Chief commercial officer at London City Airport, Andrew Hodges, said: "We're excited to expand our winter schedule with British Airways, offering even more options for passengers seeking city escapes, ski adventures, or winter sun.

"The launch of Madrid and the return of popular ski routes are a clear response to growing demand for leisure travel from London City. With existing capacity available, we're actively in discussions with both new and existing airlines to broaden our network and unlock more destinations for our passengers."
