Cruiselovers will have more to explore on the island from next year

MSC Cruises has unveiled a huge expansion of its private Bahamian island, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, with a host of new facilities set to open by late 2027.

The cruise operator will introduce new dining options, dedicated adults-only beach areas, enhanced family amenities, and a larger pier that will allow two ships to dock at once.

For British travellers ready for some Caribbean sunshine, the upgrades promise a better experience at the popular port of call.

The island, which welcomed its first guests in late 2019, was converted from a former industrial site into a destination with crystal-clear waters and white sand beaches spanning more than two miles.

Guests will soon have much more choice when it comes to food, with four new dining venues bringing the island's total to seven.

Among the new options will be a signature specialty restaurant, along with buffet facilities and food market-style dining.

It's great news for Britons looking to unwind in a child-free environment, as there will be a brand new adults-only beach area.

It will be multi-purpose - relax while sunbathing during the day and sip on cocktails while watching the sunset over the Caribbean waters in the evening.

There are also some updates coming for families travelling with children, with improvements at Seakers Cove, the island's dedicated family beach zone.

The upgraded area will feature a new playground, splashpad, and a ropes course incorporating water elements. Table tennis and foosball tables will also be installed to keep all ages entertained.

The venue will host organised activities, tournaments, and interactive games designed to keep younger guests busy throughout their visit.

For those looking for a more premium experience, the island will expand its selection of rentable cabanas. The additional private retreats will give visitors greater variety when seeking a luxurious spot to unwind away from the main beach areas.

On top of that, the MSC Foundation will launch a new "Shifting Perspective" experience, giving visitors the chance to engage with marine conservation through hands-on activities, including coral restoration and scientific discovery programmes.

Construction is already underway to extend the island's pier, which currently allows ships to dock directly for easy passenger access.

Once completed in late 2027, the expanded berth will enable two cruise ships to moor simultaneously. Beyond Ocean Cay itself, work continues on developing a neighbouring island informally known as Little Cay.

This second destination will maintain the same nature-focused philosophy, offering pristine beaches, ocean views, and upmarket amenities including water features.
