Many tourist hotspots have seen flight prices drop

British holidaymakers looking for an affordable getaway can save when travelling to their favourite destinations, as new research shows where prices have dropped.

The steepest reductions come on flights to Cologne, where prices have plummeted by 44 per cent, whilst journeys to Goa are now 34 per cent more affordable.

This is according to Skyscanner's 2026 Travel Trends Report, released today, which found the destinations that have seen prices drop the most.

The savings extend across diverse destinations, from Portugal's sun-soaked Madeira with its 26 per cent reduction to Lithuania's cultural hub Kaunas, where fares have fallen by 31 per cent.

Two key factors are driving these welcome price cuts, according to travel industry experts. Budget airlines are expanding their presence on popular routes, creating fiercer competition that benefits passengers.

Additionally, airlines are launching fresh routes and bringing back suspended services. The restoration of direct flights between Heathrow and Ottawa exemplifies this trend.

These resumed connections make it simpler and more affordable for Britons to experience Canada's vibrant capital, particularly appealing for those seeking to escape grey British weather for crisp Canadian landscapes.

Travel experts noted that fare fluctuations follow market patterns. Passengers who book during quieter periods or mid-week often secure the best deals.

Germany's carnival city Cologne tops the savings list, offering travellers a blend of Gothic architecture and modern cultural attractions. February visitors can experience the city's renowned Carnival celebrations, often compared to Mardi Gras festivities.
