Beijing has claimed the top spot as the world's cosiest autumn destination, according to Riviera Travel's 2025 Cosy Travel Index. The Chinese capital scored 627 points, beating New York and San Francisco to first place.
The travel operator's annual rankings evaluate cities based on four factors during the September to December period: ideal autumn temperatures, dry days, coffee shop numbers and parks or nature spots.
Beijing's winning combination includes average temperatures of 15°C, just two and a half rainy days across the four months, more than 1,500 coffee shops and 286 parks and natural areas perfect for autumn walks.
New York secured second place with 598 points, offering that classic autumn experience the city's famous for. With comfortable temperatures averaging 15.25°C and around six rainy days, it's perfect for exploring the Big Apple's cosy corners.

The city boasts an incredible 4,001 coffee shops and 3,000 nature spots, including the iconic Central Park, making it ideal for seasonal wandering.

San Francisco surprised many by taking third place with 571 points. Despite California's sunny image, the city offers a good autumn appeal with 1,784 coffee shops, 247 parks and barely any rain - just under three days across the whole period.
Berlin landed in fourth place with 557 points, offering that perfect crisp autumn feeling with temperatures around 12.25°C and six and a half rainy days. The German capital features 975 coffee shops and 199 parks showcasing stunning seasonal displays.
San Diego's fifth-place finish with 554 points proves you don't need chilly weather for autumn cosiness. Despite warmer temperatures at 22.25°C, the minimal rainfall and 1,700 coffee shops create an unexpectedly snug atmosphere.
Paris, Salt Lake City, Tokyo, Barcelona and Prague round out the top 10, with scores ranging from 538 to 516 points, each offering unique seasonal charm from fairytale medieval streets to mountain vistas.

“A surprising outcome is the inclusion of two Californian cities - San Francisco and San Diego; however, based on our metrics, these locations have what’s needed to enjoy the ‘ber months.
"The findings included multiple United States destinations, highlighting the country as a prime spot for seasonal charm. We hope our index helps those passionate about this time of year to enjoy it fully.”
