TRAVEL NEWS
This shift in spending priorities appears to be reshaping Britons' behaviour. Searches for affordable holidays during January have surged by 78 per cent compared with the same period last year, suggesting that cost-conscious Britons are increasingly looking at travel as a sensible alternative to pricey pastimes at home.
Tunisia, Morocco, Turkey and Egypt rank among the most-searched destinations this winter.
Chief marketing officer at icelolly.com, Steve Seddon, said: "People often think of travel as a luxury, but everyday life has become increasingly expensive, from food and transport to entertainment and family activities.

"What we're seeing is that a short trip abroad can now cost less than staying at home and carrying on as normal. So this winter, instead of just raising a glass, why not raise your boarding pass - and your eyebrows at how cheap it is?"
For more travel deals, holidaymakers have just days left to get up to £350 off family trips to Spain, Turkey and more destinations.
Or, claim up to £600 off holidays from Caribbean cruises to beach breaks. Britons can also take advantage of free child places on their next getaway.
