Carnival Cruise Line has unveiled plans for a revolutionary loyalty programme that will transform how passengers earn rewards when it launches in June 2026.
The new Carnival Rewards programme introduces a dual-earning structure where guests get both redeemable points and status-qualifying stars, in an industry first.
This new approach moves beyond the traditional model of rewarding passengers based solely on nights sailed.
Instead, the programme will recognise customer loyalty through cruise spending and everyday purchases made on the forthcoming Carnival Rewards Mastercard credit card, developed in partnership with Barclays.

The announcement gives existing members of the current Very Important Fun Person (VIFP) programme a full year to prepare for the transition.
Under the new system, passengers will earn Carnival Rewards points on all eligible purchases, including cruise fares and onboard spending. These points can be redeemed for nearly any Carnival offering, from spa treatments, drinks and speciality dining to future cruises.
Simultaneously, guests will accumulate status-qualifying stars that unlock four membership tiers: Red, Gold, Platinum and Diamond. Status will be earned over a two-year period and maintained for the subsequent two years.
This dual structure provides passengers with greater flexibility and control over their rewards. The programme represents a significant departure from the current VIFP system, which determines status based exclusively on the number of nights sailed.
President of Carnival Cruise Line Christine Duffy said: "The evolution of our loyalty program to Carnival Rewards represents our commitment to creating more meaningful recognition for our valued guests.
"Our current VIFP program has served us well for many years, and while we've enjoyed truly extraordinary growth in our loyal customer base, it has become challenging to deliver the exceptional experience our Diamond and Platinum members deserve.
"By introducing a points-based system, we're enabling greater flexibility so guests can personalise their rewards in ways that matter most to them. This transition honours our past while building a future where loyalty is recognised through both cruising frequency and overall engagement with the Carnival experience."

What's more, existing members needn't worry about losing their current status. When Carnival Rewards launches on June 1, 2026, all VIFP members will have their status transferred to the new programme for a two-year period until May 31, 2028.
Diamond members receive even greater protection, maintaining their status for six years through May 31, 2032.
Current cardholders and those who sign up before the programme launches will have their Fun Points balance converted to Carnival Rewards points. Passengers can continue earning VIFP status as normal until the transition date.
Further details about the credit card partnership with Barclays will be announced at a later date. Information about the new programme is available at carnivalrewards.com.
