A travel expert shared three countries to consider if booking a holiday now

Many Britons will be dreaming of jetting off to sunnier shores as cold, dark days continue in the UK - and there are plenty of luxurious yet affordable places to inspire.

A travel agent highlighted three cheap places to consider, whether you want a high-quality all-inclusive, an island escape, or to relax with guaranteed sunshine.

Abbie Watkinson, from TUI’s Newcastle Metro Centre store, said: "The secret to getting the best holiday value is booking early in the year.

"Not only do you get first pick of the best hotels and dates, but you can take advantage of sale prices and pay the rest when it suits you. It's a no-brainer in my eyes, especially on payday and with low deposits."

Turkey

For the ultimate all-inclusive experience without breaking the bank, think Turkey. It has picturesque coastlines and hot, sunny weather, with many resorts putting a real focus on quality and service.

Watkinson said: “Lots of the resorts out there have family-friendly facilities and kids’ clubs – my personal top pick would be the Platinum Rixos Sungate. You get free access to the Land of Legends theme park, and it has its own waterpark with 13 flumes. There are also 13 bars in the hotel, so everyone in the family will be happy.

“[Or try] the TUI BLUE Angora Beach in Izmir. It’s an adults-only hotel that has a small boutique feeling to it. It’s also only a short drive to Ephesus, which is an incredible day trip for history buffs.”

Greece

Holidaymakers eager for a stunning island getaway without the long-haul flight or price tag have a lot to choose from in Greece. The travel expert explained: "Stunning scenery, warm hospitality, delicious food, and competitive pricing make it a personal favourite of mine. Whether you’re up for some island hopping or prefer to lie by the pool, Greece ticks a lot of boxes.

“For the best value, I’d recommend spots like Zante, Kos and Skiathos – they're less crowded than the likes of Santorini and Mykonos, and a pint will only set you back around £4. The cheaper price tag makes it a win-win.

“All of the islands are breathtaking, but personally, I love Kefalonia the most. You get the kind of turquoise and white scenery you’d usually associate with the Caribbean, but without the long-haul price tag."

Spain

Spain has long been a favourite among British holidaymakers, and it is set to be just as popular this year. It has an unmatched variety of holiday spots across the mainland and islands, so travellers will have no problem finding what they are looking for.

What's more, it is the most affordable option on the list for food and drink - the average pint costs just £1.74, according to Pint Price.

Watkinson added: "It’s got short flight times of just a couple of hours, diverse resort options, and everything from lively nightlife to peaceful retreats. There really is a Spanish getaway to suit every budget and preference.

“I personally adore the Canaries. Year-round sunshine, great hotel options and plenty of experiences. Tenerife would be my pick for families - Villa Mandi in Playa de las Americas has its own TUI Kids’ Club and is also really close to the likes of Siam Park.

"Whereas for couples, I’d turn to Lanzarote, where you can find stylish resorts with a romantic vibe."
