The list was based on factors like job prospects and ease of moving

Australia has come out as the top destination for expats, according to new research. Britons moving there are likely to find success, with an impressive 77 per cent of foreign nationals finding work.

This comes as more than 900 million adults worldwide said they would relocate to another country if given the chance.

The analysis by iSharing looked at a number of factors to determine where newcomers have the greatest opportunities for successful integration.

Australia's dominance in the rankings is thanks to its ability to help newcomers find work, with 77 per cent of expats successfully landing jobs. The country also attracts the highest proportion of international students among new arrivals and sees more than 80 per cent of its foreign residents eventually become citizens.

Top 10 countries for expats (total score)

  1. Australia (99)
  2. Canada (81)
  3. United States (57)
  4. New Zealand (57)
  5. United Kingdom (54)
  6. Czechia (48)
  7. Italy (43)
  8. Slovak Republic (42)
  9. Ireland (38)
  10. Spain (37)

While Australia came out on top, it is Czechia and Slovakia that truly shine for expats looking to work for themselves. Both nations boast nearly 20 per cent self-employment rates among their foreign populations - that's one in five migrants starting their own businesses or services.

Italy ranked highly in the research as it has taken a welcoming approach to citizenship, granting naturalisation to more people each year than the total number of new expats arriving. The country sees roughly two-thirds of its foreign residents find employment, with one in six newcomers arriving as a student.

Canada secured second place overall, with three-quarters of expats finding work and seven in 10 arriving for higher education. The United States came third, granting citizenship to 878,000 people annually - the highest absolute figure globally.

New Zealand stood out with the best employment rate at 82.3 per cent. For those outside the UK, Britain also has promising incentives for expats.

The research assessed nations using permanent residency approvals, international student admissions, employment rates, self-employment opportunities and naturalisation statistics.

A spokesperson from iSharing commented: "European and North American countries have decades of experience accommodating migrants, making them the preferred choice for most newcomers.

"As families spread across borders, practical safety steps become really important. We recommend keeping digital copies of medical records, prescriptions, and allergy information that can be shared instantly if a relative has a health emergency abroad.

"Sharing real-time locations can help too, as this way you can verify that elderly parents made it home safely or track students moving around unfamiliar cities. You can also set up emergency contacts who speak the local language and know the healthcare system in each country where family members live.”
