Switch to Pixel 9a with 500GB of 5G data for less than the cost of the handset alone

For a limited time, you can pocket the Google Pixel 9a with 500GB of speedy 5G data and unlimited calls for less money than buying the handset alone. Yes, really.

Google announced the Pixel 9a back in March as an affordable twist on its flagship Pixel 9 lineup, which includes the Pixel 9 (£799), Pixel 9 Pro (£999), Pixel 9 Pro XL (£1,099) and Pixel 9 Pro Fold (£1,749) launched in late 2024.

Pixel 9a arrives with a generous 6.3-inch touchscreen display. That's slightly larger than the 6.1-inch screen found on the Pixel 8a launched last year, and identical to the one fitted on the pricier Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, providing plenty of real estate for browsing the web, scrolling social media, or watching boxsets.

The new display isn't only bigger, but it's 35% brighter than the previous Pixel 8a. That should make everything more visible — even when using the Pixel 9a in direct sunlight. The screen features a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate that adjusts between 60Hz – 120Hz, ensuring smooth scrolling while preserving battery life.

With an RRP of £499, Google claims the newest addition arrives with "the best battery life of any Pixel available today", the same speedy Tensor G4 chip found in the Pixel 9 — despite a £300 price difference, and access to the latest Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities courtesy of Gemini.

Pixel 9a comes in four colourways: Obsidian (black), Porcelain (white), Peony (pink), and Iris (purple).

Google has slashed the price of its Pixel 9a down to £449 – a saving of £50 compared to the RRP when the handset launched a few months ago. That discount is available from the Google Store as well as Amazon UK, Currys, and Argos. However, AO.com has decided to stick with the original price tag.

But the ultimate deal on the Pixel 9a comes courtesy of Mobiles.co.uk. The UK's longest-running online mobile retailer — owned by Currys — is offering the affordable Google Pixel for just £14.99 per month.

Pocket the Pixel 9a for £429.76 — that's £70 more affordable than buying the handset alone. Even with the latest sale, this two-year plan on iD Mobile is still £20 more affordable, despite offering the Pixel 9a and 500GB of 5G mobile data, unlimited calls and text messages. Just be aware there's a £49 upfront fee

For that, you'll take delivery of a brand-new Pixel 9a (£499) with 128GB of built-in storage, 500GB of 5G data, and unlimited calls and text messages via iD Mobile. The latter relies on the Three network of masts, so if you get a strong 5G signal with Three, then you'll enjoy the same service with iD Mobile.

The catch? This two-year plan comes with a £49 upfront cost, so you'll need some savings for that first payment. In total, this Mobiles.co.uk deal will cost £429.76.

That's £20 cheaper than the Pixel 9a handset alone in the latest sale — and a whopping £70 cheaper than buying the budget Android phone at full price.

Even if you could find an extremely affordable SIM-only plan with 500GB of 5G data, unlimited calls and text messages ...you're going to spend a lot more than £429.76.

Pixel 9a owners will be treated to a slew of Google-owned services. Once you've registered your new Android handset, you can claim six months of a Google One Premium 2TB subscription worth £47.94, three months of YouTube Premium worth £38.97, and six months of Fitbit Premium worth £47.94.

These paid-for services unlock ad-free YouTube videos, offline music streaming and curated playlists, at-home guided workouts, and gigabytes of cloud storage for your Gmail, Google Photos, and more. In total, you'd need to spend over £130 to unlock these services from Google.

Pixle 9a owners will be first to benefit from the 'biggest update in years' announced by Google. Android 16 will arrive with an all-new look and clever new features when it arrives later this summer.
