Dyson V16 Piston Animal aims to solve some of the biggest headaches with floorcare. First up, the hassle of wrestling tangled hair from the brushes inside the rollerhead of your vacuum. While some competitors have tried to create brushes that tear longer strands so they can be vacuumed or employ a bristle-guard and comb inside the rollerheard, Dyson is doing something different.
The team working on the V16 Piston borrowed the same conical brush design that made its debut with the ultra-slim PencilVac. These cone-shaped rollers spin and eject hair, preventing those frustrating tangles. The resulting twisted bundle of hair can be sucked-up like any other debris or dust.
We've seen this surprisingly simple solution in action, and it really works.

The conical shape of the motorised cleaner head naturally moves the long strands of hair that could be prone to tangles towards the smallest end of the brush — where they're ejected and vacuumed up

The cone design means there's no chance of troublesome hair getting wrapped around the middle of the rollers. Instead, hair naturally migrates down the brushes to the thinner, outer ends, where the tangle is spat out again.
And that's not the only clever trick in this design.
For the first time, Dyson has combined its rollers for hard floors and carpets into a single one-size-fits-all solution. Dubbed the All Floor Cones Sense cleaner head, this superb accessory comes in the box with the V16 Piston Animal. The motorised head combines two brushes, one that's rigid enough to drag dirt out of deep-pile carpets and a softer, fluffier one to remove debris without damaging hard floors.

For the first time, the same motorised cleaner head works across carpets and hard floor – so there's no need to keep detaching and switcing between accessories as you move around the house

These brushes are recessed at different levels on the conical designs. Thanks to a slew of sensors, V16 Piston Animal will automatically adjust the rotation speeds whenever it senses a change in floor types – slowing to delicately clean hard floors, speeding up for maximum agitation when cleaning carpets for optimal performance.
As you'd expect from its flagship model, Dyson V16 Piston Animal includes a clever dust-illuminating laser built at the front of the motorised head. As you push the vacuum, the green laser will show hidden dust and particulates otherwise invisible to the naked eye. This feature has been around for a few generations now, but it remains genuinely useful and needs to be seen to be believed.

The new Hyperdymium motor inside the Dyson V16 Piston Animal is 50% more power dense than before. The British brand has combined that motor with a five-stage filtration system captures 99.99% of particles, as small as 0.1 microns

Everything sucked-up into the V16 Piston Animal is sealed within the whole-machine HEPA filtration system.
This five-stage filtration system captures 99.99% of particles, as small as 0.1 microns, so only clean air is expelled back into the home. Any viruses vacuumed up with your Dyson vacuum will be trapped in the HEPA filtration system, which packs 1.9m of filters folded over 145 times.
For this new model, Dyson has switched the design of its connectors, so any attachments from previous Dyson kit won't work on the V16 Piston Animal. One of the benefits of that redesign is that you can now release the cleaner head from a trombone-like motion on a switch underneath the dustbin, so you can quickly switch between attachments without bending down.
The vacuum runs for up to 70 minutes on a single charge, and if that's not enough, Dyson will let you swap out the battery pack for another that's fully charged so you can keep going without interruption.
That battery life boost is despite the new Hyperdymium motor inside the Dyson V16 Piston Animal being 50% more power dense than before, delivering 315 Air Watts (AW) of suction. It's got something called Dynamic Cyclone technology that kicks in five extra cyclones when you hit boost mode for seriously stubborn dirt.

The new dust bin design, dubbed CleanCompaktor, can hold 30 days of debris and dust – so you won't have to empty the V16 Piston Animal anywhere near as often as earlier Dyson models (or competitors)

The new CleanCompaktor bin design squeezes dust and debris down, so you can go 30 days between empties. The total capacity of the V16 Piston Animal is 1.3L, compared with 0.77L found on previous versions. When you do empty it, the bin wipes itself clean, so no dust or hair gets left behind.
For wet messes, the Submarine 2.0 attachment builds on the mop accessory that launched with the V15s Detect Submarine, adding a motorised roller that washes hard floors after they've been vacuumed. You can even boost the water flow for tough stains, something that wasn't possible before.

The V16 Piston Animal is tightly integrated with the MyDyson app, bringing quick access to additional settings, real-time maintenance alerts, and step-by-step guides on how to clean or replace parts on your new vacuum over the coming years

Discussing the newest addition to the lineup, Sir James Dyson said: “The Dyson V16 Piston Animal is powered by our most power-dense Hyperdymium motor. It is the first to have Dynamic Cyclones, where five additional cyclones cut-in, on boost mode, for extra suction power. The improved cleaner head intelligently senses changes in floor type, automatically adjusting suction and brush bar speed.
"Two conical brush bars remove even the longest hair to be sucked directly into the bin, which holds 30 days of dust thanks to our CleanCompaktor mechanism. Plus, it is a wet and dry vacuum thanks to our upgraded Submarine head. This picks up debris and washes floors without spreading dirt, as well as cleaning up spills on hard floors."
The V16 connects to the MyDyson app, sending you maintenance alerts and step-by-step cleaning guides. It comes with three tools - a combination tool for dusting and cleaning, a crevice tool for tight spaces, and an upgraded hair screw tool that tackles pet fur.
