The 66-year-old hasn't shied away from the subject of transgender athletes competing against biological women

Martina Navratilova has claimed Chris Evert backs her views on transgender athletes competing against biological women.

The 66-year-old is a staunch believer that female sports need to be protected.

Just earlier this week she was active on social media, condemning Daniel Radcliffe for comments made about JK Rowling.

Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter in the series created as novels by Rowling, had slammed the author for her views.

And Navratilova has now said on X that Evert is backing her fight for the cause.

The tennis icon, who won 59 Grand Slams in the Open Era across singles and doubles, responded to a fan on the social media website who had suggested otherwise.

The user had said: "The amount of RESPECT I've lost for former FEMALE tennis players like @ChrissieEvert @BillieJeanKing & my all time fav #steffigraf!

"Especially Billie. Who has spent her life reaping the benefits of being an 'ADVOCATE FOR FEMALE ATHLETES'

"@martina deserves their support."

And Navratilova then set the record straight by saying: "Chris is giving me support, you got that one wrong.

"Steffi [Graf] is not involved at all.

"And Billie [Jean King] well, she is for inclusion. Go figure."

Another user seemed to then back Navratilova up by saying: "Friends can disagree, and people can be wrong sometimes.

"The thing that dismays me the most about the trans debate is the amount of vitriol and shaming that so many people turn to as their first resort when advocating for their position."

And Navratilova agreed, adding: "Yup. Coming from 'my people'. Unreal.

"The disconnect and most of all the total disregard for the feelings of and impact on women and girls within this conversation is just heartbreaking."

Trans athletes competing in female sports is a hot topic at present.

Some sporting bodies, such as the International Olympic Committee, have already taken action to prevent it from happening.

In other sports, however, it's a sensitive topic with no clear guidelines on the matter.

Back in 2019, meanwhile, Navratilova explained why she opposed the idea of trans athletes competing against biological women.

"You can’t just proclaim yourself a female and be able to compete against women," she told The Times.

"There must be some standards, and having a penis and competing as a woman would not fit that standard.

"To put the argument at its most basic: a man can decide to be female, take hormones if required by whatever sporting organisation is concerned, win everything in sight and perhaps earn a small fortune, and then reverse his decision and go back to making babies if he so desires.

“It’s insane and it’s cheating.
