Jannik Sinner has recently returned to tennis after serving a drugs ban

Nick Kyrgios has launched fresh criticism at Jannik Sinner hours before the world number one takes to Centre Court for today's Wimbledon men's final against Carlos Alcaraz.

The Australian, who will be commentating on the match, believes Sinner should have received a two-year ban for doping rather than the three-month suspension he served earlier this year.

Speaking to the I Paper, Kyrgios said: "At the end of the day, the decision has been made, and it's kind of in the past."

He added: "Sinner, he served a ban, which do I agree with? No."

Kyrgios also took aim at women's world number one Iga Swiatek, who claimed her first Wimbledon title yesterday with a dominant 6-0 6-0 victory over Amanda Anisimova in just 57 minutes.

The outspoken Australian suggested that having both singles champions at this year's Championships serve doping bans in 2024 reflects poorly on the sport.

"Do I think it's a good look for the sport that Iga Swiatek and Sinner are in the final at Wimbledon after serving a ban? I don't think it's a good look for the sport. And I think people could agree," Kyrgios told the I Paper.

Despite his strong views on the doping bans, Kyrgios insisted he would maintain professionalism whilst commentating on today's final.

"I'm not going to sit there and talk about that in the final. They've been playing some incredible tennis," he told the I Paper.

The Australian acknowledged Sinner's form since returning from his suspension, saying: "He came back, and he's been playing some excellent tennis.

"He didn't look like he missed a beat, and he looked like he improved during that period of time, which is still incredible, regardless of why he was banned."

Kyrgios has been one of Sinner's most vocal critics throughout the doping controversy.

Sinner's participation at the French Open marked his first tournament following a three-month doping suspension, making it a contentious issue at the time.

The 23-year-old Italian is seeking his first Wimbledon title to add to his three Grand Slam victories, whilst also hoping to avenge his painful defeat to Alcaraz in the Roland Garros final.

Swiatek served a one-month ban last November before returning to competition.

The Polish player's commanding performance yesterday saw her secure her maiden Wimbledon crown in under an hour on Centre Court.

Both players have faced scrutiny over their doping bans throughout 2024.
