The world No 1 has spoken out following Sunday's spectacular final at Roland Garros

Jannik Sinner has admitted he won't sleep well tonight after losing the French Open final to Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday.

The Italian appeared to be in cruise control after taking the first two sets, only for his rival to mount a stunning comeback to reign supreme.


Sinner had three championship points in the fourth set but was unable to take any of them, with Alcaraz going on to secure the fifth major of his career.

The Spaniard won 4-6 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (10-2) to emulate compatriot Rafael Nadal by retaining the French Open in Paris.

Sinner has now reacted to the enthralling match, which will be remembered as one of the best finals of all time.

He admitted he was disappointed to end up losing, while also conceding that he'll struggle to sleep tonight following his heartbreaking defeat.

"First of all, Carlos. Congrats again, an amazing performance, battle, everything," he said.

"I am very happy for you and you deserve it.

"It is easier to play than talk now but to my team, thank you so much for helping me put myself in this position.

"We tried our best today. We gave everything we had.

"Still an amazing tournament even though it is very, very difficult now.

"I won't sleep very well tonight but it is OK."

Alcaraz, meanwhile, expressed his joy after winning the French Open - with the 22-year-old showing class by hailing Sinner and his display.

"I always want to start with Jannik. It is amazing the level you have," he said.

"Congratulations for an amazing two weeks.

"I know the hard work you put in every day.

"You are going to be champion many times- it is a privilege to share the court with you in every tournament and make history with you.

Alcaraz will now set his sights on winning Wimbledon for the third year on the trot.

The youngster has beaten Novak Djokovic in the last two finals in London.
