Jack Draper has faced an extended spell out of tennis through injury

Jack Draper is finally ready to make his long-awaited comeback to competitive tennis next month.

The British number one will represent Great Britain in their Davis Cup qualifier against Norway, scheduled for 5 and 6 February in Oslo.

It's brilliant news for British tennis fans who've been waiting over five months to see their top player back in action.

The 24-year-old left-hander, currently sitting at world number 10, has been battling a troublesome arm injury that's kept him off court since August.

He's managed just a single singles match since Wimbledon, making this return all the more significant.

Draper won't be going it alone in Scandinavia – he's joined by a seriously strong squad.

Cameron Norrie and Jacob Fearnley, Britain's second and third-ranked singles players, complete the singles lineup.

The doubles department looks equally impressive, with Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool bringing their world number one partnership to the team.

Great Britain's Davis Cup captain Leon Smith couldn't hide his enthusiasm about the selection.

"It's great to be putting forward our strongest team for February's Qualifier tie, with our top three ranked singles players and the current No.1 ranked doubles team in the world," Smith said.

The captain acknowledged the challenge ahead, adding: "We know we need a strong squad to face a high-quality Norway team at home but we're all looking forward to the challenge in Oslo."

Whoever wins this tie will progress to the second qualifying round later in the year, where they'll face either Australia or Ecuador in September for a spot in the Davis Cup Finals.

Draper's road back hasn't been straightforward, though.

The arm injury forced him to cut short his 2025 season after withdrawing from the US Open in August, having only completed his opening match.

Things got worse when he had to pull out of the entire Australian swing on Boxing Day, missing the United Cup, Adelaide International and Australian Open.

That withdrawal was a gut-wrenching decision for Draper, who shared his feelings in a video message to fans.

"I've had this injury for a long time. I'm at the very, very end stages of the process," he explained, noting that jumping straight into best-of-five-set Grand Slam tennis simply wasn't sensible.

He described this setback as "the most difficult, the most challenging and the most complex one" he's faced in his career.

Yet Draper remains hungry, insisting the experience has only made him more determined to reach his potential.

His early 2025 form was exceptional – he climbed to a career-best world number four in June and claimed his first Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells in March.
