The Briton has been struggling in recent matches

Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from tournaments in Tokyo and Hong Kong citing health concerns, bringing an early conclusion to her 2025 campaign.

The world No29 has decided to prioritise recovery rather than complete the Asian swing of events.

The former US Open champion has been battling illness for around a week, according to sources within her team.

Despite attempting to maintain her training and competition schedule, the 22-year-old has opted to focus on regaining full fitness.

The Toray Pan Pacific Open, scheduled to begin in Tokyo on Monday, will proceed without the British No1's participation.

Raducanu's recent matches have been marred by physical difficulties. She was forced to retire from her contest with American Ann Li at the Wuhan Open last week, playing in challenging conditions.

Following medical treatment in Wuhan, she posted on Instagram: "Last day at the doctor's in Wuhan. Feeling better now, shame I couldn't continue there but thank you for the messages."

Her physical troubles persisted at the Ningbo Open on Tuesday, where she suffered a first-round defeat to world number 219 Zhu Lin across three sets. Lower back pain compounded her difficulties during the match.

The defeat in Ningbo marked her third consecutive first-round exit, highlighting the impact of her ongoing health issues.

Despite the disappointing end to her season, Raducanu has secured positive news regarding her coaching arrangement.

Francisco Roig, who joined her team following Wimbledon on an agreement through to December, will continue their partnership into 2026.

The Spanish coach, previously part of Rafael Nadal's team, has committed to extending their collaboration beyond the initial short-term arrangement.

The pair are planning to undertake a pre-season training programme together.

Roig had returned to Barcelona this week, leaving Raducanu to work with Alexis Canter during the Ningbo tournament. Daniel Pohl served as her physiotherapist and trainer for the event.

The remainder of Raducanu's support team remains to be confirmed for next season.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

Her 2025 campaign yielded notable statistics, with Raducanu competing in 51 matches - the highest tally of her career - and securing 28 victories.

The Briton achieved her best result of the season by advancing to the semi-finals at the City Open in Washington in July, where she defeated Naomi Osaka.

Throughout the year, she faced exceptionally strong opposition, meeting Grand Slam champions on four occasions.

She encountered Iga Swiatek twice, whilst also facing Aryna Sabalenka at Wimbledon and Elena Rybakina at the US Open.

Remarkably, Raducanu contested 16 matches against players who have reached Grand Slam finals this season.

She will celebrate her 23rd birthday next month, having chosen to skip Britain's Billie Jean King Cup campaign in September to pursue ranking points through the Asian tournaments.
