The Spaniard came from two sets down to defeat world No 1 Jannik Sinner in a final for the ages.
Alcaraz won 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6 to secure the fifth Grand Slam of his career in a contest that lasted five and a half hours.

Alcaraz previously travelled to the popular partying destination after winning Wimbledon last year.
And while Ferrero told the 22-year-old to enjoy himself, he also stressed that he must 'remember he's a tennis player'.
"Yesterday I told him to have a good time because he deserved it, but to remember that he is a tennis player," he told El Laguero.
"We know how he is, these days suit him well, he'll come back refreshed and in a good mental state.

"It's not just about partying but about disconnecting, not thinking about tennis and being with his friends like any other 22-year-old kid.
"He'll return to work with motivation."
Alcaraz has previously opened up on his decision to go to Ibiza.
After beating Novak Djokovic in the final of Wimbledon for the second year in a row, the world No 2 jetted off despite the orders of his team.

"I had a friend who had a couple of days off and was planning to go to Ibiza with some friends," he said.
"I ended up going, they knew what I was going to do on the island. In Ibiza, I’m not going to lie to you, it’s mostly about partying.
"I basically went to 'let loose', I don’t know if that’s the best way to put it, but I went there to party."
LATEST SPORTS NEWS:
Alcaraz won't be spending too long in Ibiza, however.
He's set to return to action at Queen's, with his first match poised to take place on June 16.
As for Sinner, the Italian was left devastated after his agonising defeat at Roland Garros.
The 23-year-old had the match in his hands when he secured a two-set lead, with few expecting such a remarkable collapse.
Sinner's only Grand Slam triumphs have come on hard court, having won the Australian Open twice - as well as the US Open last year.
Whether he can bounce back by winning Wimbledon is something only time will tell.
